I spent Saturday evening at The Glass House and can honestly say I thought both the food and the service was outstanding. The extensive wine list had over 300 bottles to choose from, and both the pidgeon salad with truffled egg and the venison steak hache were truely memorable.

Went as a party of 4 on a Saturday night. Food was pretty good, the ususual 'modern European' scene although a cut above many similar places. Nothing to get over excited about and the service was very poor. We had an 20:30 booking and arrived a touch early yet it was after 22:00 when ours mains were served. Also no pre-dinner drinks arrived for 30 minutes. A pleasant enough evening, but won't be rushing back.

My favourite local restaurant - ignore the comments below, i feel sorry for the talented staff here who deliver consistently to provide wonderful meal experiences. i was curious with some of the comments so when i ate there yesterday i asked about the menu - the seasonal menu, which hasn't changed since the last reviewer, has not 1 but 3 vegetarian starters - endive salad, butternut squash soup and a wild mushrooms with duck egg - not a bad choice out of 9 starters; they can also do a starter as a main course if the veggie main isn't desired - clever that!I had the spaghetti of cepes and pumpkin for my main course, no sweet potato there as mentioned, i think that was probably the pumpkin as listed, nor were there any garlice cloves either - (nor did the endive salad have coriander or parmesan in it); the spaghetti is a carefully balanced and delicious dish; i believe for any kids they do a straight forward spaghetti with tomato sauce - not too many flavours there to confuse you.. i have never seen a £75 bottle of pinot grigio either - nor will you on this list, though the wine below the £29.50 p.grigio was indeed this price, presumably a more superior wine that costs more ? i think this list is well considered as i'd would expect being in such company as the Square and Chez Bruce and having had the pleasure of talking with the highly knowledgeable sommelier, knows he selects carefully from mostly private houses - no supermarket wines here to compare cost to, but this isn't the sort of place where margins come before quality and value. so come for the wonderful cheeseboard, friendly yet polished service, and choose great wines at all budgets, but mostly for the food - innovative, hearty, old favourites, simple done well, intelligent - and tastey.

A difficult one to be honest. Went as a party of 6 and was the only vegetarian in the party. I had only one option in the starter and mains courses. My starter had just too many flavours going on. Mustard, beetroot, celeriac, blue cheese, corriander and parmesan. My main was worse. My spagetti came with 5 whole cloves of garlic, sweet potatoe mushrooms and breadcrums. It was very dry and the only flavour to come out of the dish was unsuprisingly the garlic. To be fair, the rest of my group enjoyed their meat/fish dishes. With the expensive wine list (a Pinot Grigio was £75!!!) the bill came to £70 a head and I for one will never be rturning to this establishment

I toyed with the idea of trying somewhere new for our anniversary but fell back on an old favourite. Each course vindicated (a) my decision and (b) the chef's sure touch. Funnily enough, I had the same pasta dish that the last reviewer panned as being try-hard with "too many flavours". True, the creamy ceps brought a richness that I'd associate more with a risotto than spag, but the portions are never overblown and I thought they'd judged the intensity of flavours just right. I love the place - I'm sorry if my wife and I added to the "mature" atmosphere that another reviewer noted. It was our 30th anniversary, after all.

Quite disappointing food experience. The Glasshouse tries too hard and mixes too many flavours per dish. The Spaghetti starter had cepes and squash and pignoli and ...(too much butter), the halibut main had gnocchi and grilled onion and ham and peas and (too much fat), the duck etc. If the dishes were somewhat simpler it would be delicious and then price/quality (100 Lstg for two with wine) would be outstanding.

We've dined here on a good few occasions but will not do so again. The restaurant operate sittings on Saturday night. They allot 2 hours for a, compulsory, 3 course menu (£35 for three courses). The problem is that the service can be a bit slow hence making the 3 courses a bit of a rush. When we last went their delays meant that by the time the bill had been paid and the tea, finally, delivered we were 5 minutes (and I mean 5 minutes) over our allotted sitting time. The manageress came over and haughtily told us to leave as she could not wait for the table any longer (though had not approached us before). She did not even give us the time to drink our tea, nor for the taxi to arrive (that they had ordered). We had to wait in the rain. I thought that was disgraceful and so complained to her. She tried to avoid responsibility. We won't go back. For the rest of you who decide to go for it anyway - try the truffled egg salad starter, I'll miss that, but that alone.

Ate here on a Thursday night and we were pretty impressed. Although the menu wasn't that exciting, the food was tastey. The monkfish starter was delicious but the hake was a little simple. For mains we had cod which was good although quite winterey, and hallibut which was the winner.

The staff were very friendly and service good, but the atmosphere was quite "mature". We preferred La Trompette for food and atmosphere, but this is worth a visit too.

Dined here on the 22nd of July in family party of three. I am happy to report an excellent meal, beautifully prepared and presented. Service was excellent apart from an overwhelming desire to fill your glass with whatever wine or water you had ordered. The sommelier in particular was marvellous and clearly knew his topic.

I would not hesitate to return.

The air conditioning was very welcome last Saturday lunchtime when we celebrated my daughter's in-laws Golden wedding, and the food was superb.

My chicken dish had the tiniest little mushrooms in the sauce and the prune and armagnac ice cream to follow was one of the best I have ever tasted.

Our party was aged from one to seventy-one and we were treated so nicely by the staff, who were attentive without hovering.

I have been to Chez Bruce as well and if I had the choice, would always go to one of Bruce Poole's restaurants for a special occasion.

PS I liked the flannels in the Ladies as well.
