We have just come back from a visit at the guinea, I would say the pies look amazing i didnt have one but i wish it did.
Service was excellent but cover charge was a bit pricey at £1.50 p person. Hubby had a mixed grill disapointed it didnt come with chips or even asked if he wanted to buy any chips.
My beef in red wine and horseradish mash was superb and good value for money and the desserts are.
I would go back but would have the pie

Completely overpriced for what I would call average food.
I sent back my starter as the duck egg a) looked like a chicken's egg it was so small and b) was completely overcooked. My boyfriend sent back his blue steak as it was well done.
This resturant is getting away with overpricing as it is located in Mayfair, the service was good but the food was not. Many better places to eat in the same area for the same price.

Lovely steak and kidney pie, however the £1.50 cover charge per person to cover a piece of bread each and a small bowl of olives was a surprise upon receipt of the bill. Also be aware that there is a £17 minimum order per person, so we were 'advised' by the waitress to order an appetizer or consider a dessert. After the pie, do not plan for a dessert - although they sound very good!

I'm afraid that my visit was not a success. They fitted us in with a half-hour wait in the bar - so far so good as we had not booked. The waitress was very pleasant but her deputy was not so on the ball and service was erratic. The much vaunted steak and kidney pie was, frankly, tepid to cold. I complained but I had eaten the pie from the edge and it was getting late so I persisited although I was offered a new one. Worse, however, was the wine-waiting. I ordered a botlle of Mercury 2001 and i duly received a bottle of 2003 - I had to spot the discrepancy myself, it was not pointed out by the waiter. Worse, there was no adjustment in price. This is unforgiveable in my book - and a betrayal of trust between diner and restaurant. The bill was as expected - but poor value for money. I am not usually a harsh marker.

Pity they have the sittings system. It means that if you early you cannot have leisurely dinner and appreciate the food and the surroundings. The food was very good and as always their pies are excellent. We were well received and the wine waiter was most attentive. The only reason they have a low score on service is that our waiter was surly and couldn't wait to see us out even though there were many free tables. Ever had the feeling that that the waiter is doing a favour serving you? Well, it was like that.

Went there last night, with two friends, and had myself one of their fine steak and kidney pies. Not cheap (at £12.50), but couple good old-fashioned suet pies (or a dirty great steak) with exemplary service, good ale (which can be ordered from the adjoing bar) and an intimate atmosphere, you really can't go wrong. It certainly won't be my last visit.

I recently cancelled a booking for 7 people for lunch here because they indicated that there was a cancellation fee of £30.00 per head. I was booking a table for 7 and although I felt that this policey was understandable, when I asked if I would be charged £30.00 if only 6 people showed up, they said it would be by "negotiation".
So I went to Shampers instead. No deposit, no argument and a great place.
The Guinea Grill is good though and the staff are particularily good. Just make sure you turn up!

If I spend as much money on a meal as I did here I expect perfection. However, whilst the food was OK, it was not an epicurean delight, that's for sure and certainly not good value for money. Futhermore, the waiters were more obsequious than friendly. The South African red we had was excellent though. Overall, though, I would not recommend this restaurant.

I've been hearing about the Guinea for over thirty years and finaaly got there. It wass exactly as it hhad been described - frindly, professional, simple, well-prepared food, excellent wine list. The whole place hhas a lovely old-fashioned calm to it - you feel like you're well taken care of and that nothing is a rush. It is a great antedote to the hustle and bustle of younger places. Go for the food, go for ther service, go again and again. I know I will
