Very ordinary. Looked like a chain and felt like one. Crammed tables, very noisy. Food was pretty bland and boring to be frank. Much rather go to a proper Indian/Pakistani restaurant.

I booked my birthday party there, 7th December. A friend looked after the reservation aspect and this went smoothly etc....
The food was nice, standard indian menu items, nicely cooked...
What disappointed me is that before the food arrived we were left about one hour without anything to eat and no possibility to order extras, such as poppadums, nanns etc...I was starving. The wine was quite warm. The service was nice enough but must knock points down because of the previous points mentionned.
The party room itself was not very Christmassy, there was not really any atmosphere. But that's a personal view, I think upstairs is nicer. I felt we were a bit left to our own devices.
If you want a nice idian meal, then I recommend it for the food but maybe not for a party.

In response to Jay Shah: the English qualification is indeed not necessary, but politeness is something that is in order to survive in a competitive market. Rude staff should not be tolerated anywhere; I would like to think that as a consumer I pay for good service seeing that a service charge WAS added.

If you like sloppy overcooked greasy indians this is NOT the place for you. The food is delicate, fresh and with complex flavours. You can see them cook the food and the service was great even though we went on a busy saturday night!! Look to Masala Zone for a beautiful tasting meal with a refreshingly updated indian cuisine.

Great Restaurant, I have enjoyed eating the delicious food at this place with the great customer service to match it. Having been to many Indian restaurants at the heart of Indian communities such as Southall, Harrow, Tooting and East Ham, I would need to mention that Masala Zone stands out as it offers not only traditional Indian food but also have their own unique choice of plates and styles which is very appealing.
I am of Indian decent but I would not use it as an advantage comparing myself with other nationalities whilst reviewing restaurants. By being an Indian, It is no surprise to me that a waiter or waitress is pushy as that is the ‘usual service’ in any Indian restaurant, especially in India!
Also, not every waiter in this country has to have an English Qualification. Why attend an Indian Restaurant and expect every member of staff to speak perfect English? If you’re Indian then I am sure communication is not a problem in an Indian restaurant.
It might just be the case that you do not appreciate Indian culture and how Indian staff are working in these restaurants. As mentioned before, it would not be a good idea for you to go back.
Thanks

It is called humouring the customer..! Having worked in the hospitality industry for more than 10 years, I know full well when I am given bad service and the 'jokes' were not made AT the staff at all.
I believe I am in a position to comment about the food as I am of Indian decent and found it unacceptable.
The experience was awful and I would not wish it upon anyone wanting to enjoy a pleasant meal.

Since when has it been the job of a waiter to join in with a tables 'jokes': at the expense of the poor staff you were mocking no doubt...
I have eaten at all of the branches of this chain and have never experienced anything less than good service and great food.

Masala Zone, Soho - recommended by a friend who accompanied me on Friday evening, but neither of us were braced for the lame service that awaited us...
The waitresses seemed pushy when asking us what we would like to order and interrupted the conversation more than once - quite rudely at that!
Anyway, after settling for a 'mango margarita', which was one of the few alcoholic drinks available, we managed to get some starters on the table.. Chatting away and eating, no sooner had a fork been put down, someone would swiftly come and remove the plate with, what I felt, was considerable pressure to hurry our meal and leave...!
The food was pretty mediocre; none of it had any real flavour and seemed batch produced - the chef had made little effort to check that it actually tasted ok.
I think the icing on the cake had to be the three, yes 3, staff members who:
1) Could not speak English properly - why employ people who cannot understand the needs of the customer..?
2) Could not take a joke nor join in British humour and actually responded very rudely to any banter;
3) Added a 10% service charge - which I thought was a complete nerve considering the bad service we had received.
The only reason we paid was to escape as quickly as possible and salvage the evening elsewhere.
I will not be returning there in a hurry!
