I'd go back again in a heartbeat, superbly flavoured food, great atmosphere and very informative and friendly staff who seem to really care that they've served you with a good meal.y Yes, the thali does not have the biggest portions in the world but at these prices I'm not complaing - just order it twice! Ok, I did buy a bag of chips an hour later.....

We really enjoyed the Vegetable thali, and loved the over all atmosphere. The paintings on the wall are by the Gond painter Bhajju Shyam who comes over from Madhya Pradesh especially to paint the walls of the Masala Zone restaurants. They are a joy to behold and they were the main reason that my partner and I went to the restaurant in the first place (the excellent food was an added bonus). We were very disappointed not to find a single reference to the name of the artist, either on the wall, or in the menu card. It is a pity that proper recognition is not given to the very person whose wonderful art is largely responsible for the restaurant's unique atmosphere. I hope the management will see fit to give Bhajju's name the pride of place it deserves.

I might have ordered the wrong thing on the menu... the food was so so only. I think the food is lacking in original Indian flavour, perhaps the restaurant is trying to cater for local Londoners taste. I have had better and more authentic Indian food elsewhere.

The plus side: friendly service staff that are willing to recommend and explain the menu to us.

At the risk of sounding glib, what is the point, in a city and country stuffed to the gills with probably the best Indian restaurants outside Asia, in a place like this? There's nothing terribly wrong with it, but it's certainly a restaurant for people who like their treats to be safe, their shops on the high street, their cinemas multiplex and their bars All and One. If you don't - avoid.

Excellent food and very pleasant service. The two vegetarian main courses on the menu are both wonderful - particularly impressed with the Ondhio and Lentil Khichdi which has sugar snap peas, green banana, yam and many other tasty ingredients. The set menu (£7.95 for 2 courses before 6:30pm) is great value, though the starter portions are very small compared to if the item were ordered on its own. So the Gol Guppa consisted of only 3 pooris - which isn't much at all! The main courses portions are really large and filling though, which definitely made up for that. Looking forward to visiting again soon.

Typical of some of the Oriental small chains: exquisite flavours, small portions. We tried the Grand Thali, and it was a great eating experience, (seemingly) good value and with nice wines available. But, as mentioned, the portions were simply small. In fact I found myself grabbing a pasty at Marylebone later, a first in terms of post-curry hunger! Service was very friendly and well-meaning but with a couple of memory lapses (eg the wine, initially). I'd go back for more, but would try something else from the menu, to see if the portion size issue was specific to the "all in" approach of the Grand Thali.

I travel to London quite often and I have to say it is always a must to go to Masala Zone. The staff is really friendly and the food is absolutely brillant and cheap aswell. What more can you ask for? Definitely worth paying a visit to Masala Zone.. and try the Butter chicken.. it's really yummy:-)

I could not agree more with the comments below: at this price point, for authentic, quality food and service involving staff who really do go out of their way to look after you, Masala Zone can not be beaten.

What a shame there are not more branches of this little gem...

I ate in Masala Zone with an Indian colleague from the US. If one knows what one is in for, that is, a small chain restaruant, serving Indian style food to compete with crappy chains of Italian, Asian, and other 'ethnic' cuisines, then one understands how good Masala Zone is. First rate, and highly recommended for a light lunch, or nice meal out, without pretensions to higher cuisine. I find the other negative reviews tiresome.

We'd been recommended to visit the restaurant by friends who go very often- and I'm very pleased we did!

The food- authentic Indian, wide ranging, well presented and keenly priced. The service- well meaning, efficient and genuine, think east meets west. One things for sure, I'll be meeting people here for years to come. Truly fantastic!
