Chez Gerard at the Opera Terrace

I had dinner at Chez Gerard at the Opera Terrace and I have not had worse food. The price was extortionate for what was served. Fries were like they're from McDonalds. Food wasn't well presented. Two of my friends ordered steak to be cooked medium rare and it came as well done as it could be and burnt. My seabass was over cooked, so was dry and had nothing to complement the dish, just the piece of fish and weak sauce. The only thing that was satifactory was perhaps the soft bread. Of course the location was very nice as well.
I do not recommend this place at all; the standard of food is appalling. You can get a lot better around the area.

Dined here pre theatre on a Monday nite. Arrive ebfore 6pm to avoid the rush. Food and Wine were pretty good but a little overpriced. Service was ok but not sparkling.

Never, never, never again, I thought to myself as we left the scene of the crime. Initial thoughts had been good, the clean lines of the glass and iron reminiscent of a Parisien cafe, the bustling atmosphere. Sadly that was as good as the evening got. Poor service, taking half an hour before even our drinks orders were taken, frankly second rate food, overpriced & third rate wine list and the discomfiture of being jostled by waiters walking the length of the restaurant every few seconds conspired to ruin the experience. Never, never, never again.

Terrible service - one waiter forgot to bring one of the drinks, another failed to order one of the main courses so that one of our party had to eat after everyone else had finished. There was no apology. When the bill arrived we were overcharged for our wine and, despite the problems on our order, they had the audacity to add the usual 12.5% service. The food was OK but we will never go there again.

Went to Chez Gerard last night following a lovely Christmas Carol Service, only to find our Christmas joy sapped completely by the atrocious service and, quite frankly, below par food. We arrived for an 8.30pm booking only to be told we would have to wait for 30 mins - 80 mins, and no apology later I approached the 'one with the headset' to complain. She was frankly quite rude and used the fact that others had been waiting even longer (!!) than us as an excuse.
Eventually we were seated (not in the smoking area I had booked.. Grrrrr) and having drunk rather more than we would have liked before eating, found the food cold and not worth the money.
A change in the kitchen and fewer tables would do wonders for this place.. at present apalling in every sense of the word.

We were visiting London last week and went to this restaurnt prior to the theatre. The service was outstanding, the staff efficient but not rushing you out the door. We ate and had plenty of time to walk at a leisurely pace to the theatre.
Quality and quantity of food was excellent, the steaks we ordered were perfectly cooked.
Will definitely return when we next visit.

Thursday lunchtime. In the Zinc bar section. There was one waitress serving the whole area. She was obviously stressed out, but wasn’t doing herself any favours, if you know what I mean. When we got there, there were only two other tables occupied and it shouldn’t have been that hard to get things right. Took ages to place our order. Drinks took ages to come and were wrong when they did. Waiter turns up with food but hasn’t got a clue where to go – even though there were only a handful of tables occupied, and only one of them without food!
Burgers were on the tough side, buns were stale. Chips and salad were nice.
Waitress apologised, saying she was on her own – but it was a little late to be polite, just as I was pressing the “Tip – yes/no?” button on the card reader 

Great restaurant & fab food. Yes the service can be a little chaotic, but hey, this is a restaurant overlooking the hustle & bustle of Covent Garden & there's no escaping that. The atmosphere is electric! Try grabbing a table on the terrace (it's worth waiting for) My only advice for this restaurant...reduce the number of tables, then the staff can really show a good performance, but on doing that I guess the prices would have to be increased..Chez Gerard give 'em the X factor & then your onto a winner. Overall, I give them the thumbs up & I shall return.

The food was great -simple starters, excellent steaks, frites good and crisp - and the wine selection was good if pricey. But the service was execrable. If you go here, do not let them attract you to a funky little table on the balcony overlooking the hall. It's a recipe for being ignored. The restaurant has the basic elements but they have to put the service right.

After reading your recent reviews I was expecting the worst out of this restaurant. However I had a wonderful evening. I was welcomed warmly into this beautiful restaurant with wonderful views on both sides of covent garden market. The waitress was attentive and friendly and the food( I had a steak) was cooked to perfection. It was my partners birthday and the waitress went to a lot of trouble in providing a dessert with a candle in it to surprise him. Overall we had great food, wonderful wine and perfect service. How could I ask for more out of a restaurant?
