This was one of the most dreadful meals I have eaten in a long time. I ordered Dover Sole, which came cold, on a tasteless mass of salad. When I expressed surprise, and asked for a warm Dover Sole, they simply microwaved it and it shrivelled up to nothing. Possibly the worst value meal for £19 I have ever eaten! Great location, but awful service and awful food.

My boyfriend and I endured the worst service i have ever encountered in a restaurant to date. We had eaten at Chez Gerard, Covent Gdn before and returned because of the delicious steaks.

To name but a few dissappointments of the evening; no maitre d' upon arrival, we were left to pour our own bottle of wine, having to wait 30 minutes for a sorbet that never showed. I approached the manager once we had given up waiting for the sorbet to show up and I was offered a mild apology and assured that the sorbet and the service would be taken off the bill - I was appalled! I had no intention of paying any service at all - i was shocked that the manager saw this as a kindness he was offering. I sternly informed the manager that we would not be returning.

Its funny how bad service can turn the taste of your meal sour. Such a shame.

I booked a table for 2 at 7:00 and when we arrived we were told that we had to wait 45 mins for a table. For entree's I ordered the crab which was by no means fresh, and after we had finished we had 50 minute wait between our entree's and our mains, with our white wine being served to us warm. I ordered from their steak menu and found that when you order the steak, that is all you get. A piece of steak served to you on your plate with nothing else. The location would have been nice except from the fact that we were outside and seated on the lower terrace next to another tables feet. A place that I shall not be visiting again.

Tasteless, overpriced food and average service. Has the potential to be something great but alas it's not.

I visited at the weekend - the booking was unfortunately made before I had read the rather poor reviews. Unfortunately I can only concur - the service was slow and chaotic (waited 1 hour for our first drink). Whilst the starters were reasonable (when they eventually arrive), the steak which was requested rare, came back well done. Our waiter did agree to waiver some of the charges on the bill, but it is such a shame that this excellently located restaurant is run so badly.

Horribly Desapointed....that the only words I can find to talk about this restaurant....They have everything to make a fantastic restaurant, a great location, nice views, an interesting menu....but the magic doesn't work. The room is noisy, the tablecloth, glasses and windows are dirty, the food is really poor. We have ordered a "Chateaubriand", the cooking was unbelievable, it's was a non sense, they had cut it in slices to be sure that the meat will be well done, it's simply a shame to do that with a piece of meat that worth 50 GPB (and also I'm still looking for the official 500 g!!). The starters were very basic, without any flavour and because we were desapointed, we didn't even tried the desserts... It's simply a shame to qualify this restaurant as a French one...it's just an expensive canteen...Just be on your way, the french cuisine is so much better than that !

Pierre (a little bit unnerved about this restaurant)

I must admit I didn't recognise this bustling brasserie from the reviews on this site. We went on a pre theatre deal, less than £10 for 2 courses. We got a great table after 5mins waiting, efficiently handled by friendly staff. We added to the set menu at incremental cost, were not rushed or made to feel 2nd class. I recommend it.

The food was excellent, the service was good...but you are paying for what you get. Great location smack bang in the middle of Covent Garden, very buzzy but romantic too. I would definitely go again but it won't become a regular haunt - somehow it's missing the x factor.

I ate here with 3 freinds and the food was fabulous, olives on arrival, fresh bread and great steak/frittes. A true taste of france and I would recommend a special detour. Great location, great food thank you
