every 6 months or so we forget how completely disinterested/rude the staff at the star are - and end up going back. This was the last time. In a half empty restaurant - the drinks took 25 mins to order and a further 10 to appear. The food which is generally very good - was barely tepid by the time it reached the table. The restaurant has a really bleak vibe - lots of tetchy customers torn between liking the food (when it arrives hot) and hating the staff/set up. At Noor Jahan around the corner the food may not be as good, and the tables are also annoyingly close (although at the noor they are buzzing with conversation rather than full or people sitting in silence) - but the staff and the cost more than compensate - its a fun night out.
Annoyingly bad. We will not be returning for cold food and warm drinks again.

I had always wanted to visit this resturant and was bitterly dissapointed from the offset. No polite greeting, told we could sit anywhere. Had to wait over 20 mins to get a menu as well as a drinks order. Staff did not seem to care at all. starters were very over priced for what you got, 2 mini samosa's £7.95. Main meal was a little improved, but would certainly not recommend as best Indian in London. I would suggest that the staff take a lesson in how to look after their customers. politeness a definite. Resturant was quite dirty. Our 3 course meal was complete within 45 mins. Did not feel at all welcome

Average food, unattentive service (had to wait 20 minutes before I was even given a menu!), poor value for money (can get the same quality of food for half the price) and the decor is in severe need of refurbishment. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to families especially.

Three of us visited the Star of India on a Tuesday lunchtime last week having always wanted to eat at Reza's restaurant and found the food to be of the highest order. We ordered some dishes from the tandoor to start and the lamb cutlets were the best I have ever tasted. We all had Lamb dishes for main and they were beautifullly tasty as were the okra and saag side dishes.
All good on the food front then.......some of the best we'd ever tasted.......completely spoilt by the really cold and unfriendly service we received throughout our stay, which amounted to just over one hour and twenty minutes !
Surely, If you ring and book a table for 1pm you should be told that the restaurant will close at 2.30...........to be greeted, admitedly at 1.10pm with that message doesn't particularly bode well and sure enough, at 2.40pm our coats were put over the chair next to our table with our glasses still half full as we watched the senior waitor go outside for a cigarette !!
This was an extremely frustrating visit as the food was superb and would have almost deserved the £45 per head cost ( 2 courses and two drinks each ) had it not been for the truly awful service........note : we were the only diners in the restaurant.
