My partner and I were in Vama- The Indian Room last night. The restuarant lived up to its expectation as a award winning restaurant. I had the tandoori jhinga, and that is something that the rest of the Indian restaurants really don't know how to make. We tried their signature lamb chops, a delicious treat that you would want you going back there again and again.
I would recommend this to everyone in London looking to have great Indian food.!

One of the finest Indian food ever eaten in London. Extremely helpful staff and entertainment was one of its kind. I went there with my wife and just cant wait to go there with my friends.

Possibly the most disappointing meal of my life and that includes the New Forrest Little chef (family Holiday). Over complicated and un–authentic. I read all the reviews beforehand and should have taken heed. The staff made me feel like I know nothing and could not eat here without their help. As I have been a chef in the Capitol for the last 16 years I felt a bit aggrieved.

Very surprised by all the rave reviews from recent visitors. I tried Vama a couple of times in the last few months (summer and early autumn 2006) and was very disappointed. Frankly it's not a patch on what it used to be. The starter of Paneer was small and tasteless. Main course was a prawn thing, billed on the menu as "king prawn" which consisted of exactly the same fare you get in "street" Indian restaurants, eg, small deep freezer cheap prawns. Everything including the side dishes was uniformly bland and to be honest almost tasteless. Avoid - gone seriously downhill, but still huge prices.

My wife and I made a trip down to London recently and we were extremely pleased and delighted with the food, attention to detail, the level of service and the ambiennce of the Indian Rooms a credit to Andy and Arjun Vama and their staff. The food was a delight not your traditionla "burn your palate stuff and lets quench it with several Cobra beers style" but curries that you can taste and enjoy. Well done.

Absolutely Amazing!
The best Indian food I have had in ages.
I had dinner there last week, the food left me with the best ever after taste, I can still taste Vama’s signature daal ‘Ma di daal’ on my lips. I can’t wait to go back.

I took some firnds to Vama recently, and frankly, the food was disgusting.
I have visted Vama before and valued the quality of food and their setting (regardless of the poor service), but I was embarassed with manner they have gone 'down -hill' and won't be going back!

Dear Mr. Batra
Vama has the same Jhalfrezi recipe since inception. The authentic Jhalfrezi has mixed vegetables, and therefore the chicken Jhalfrezi has the chiciken with the mixed vegetables. We would love to have your recipe of a jhalfrezi to compare to ours.
Warm regards
Andy

I am a regular at Vama and welcome what it has done for Indian Food in London, it has shown people that such a thing as refined Indian "cuisine" exists and introduced the average Briton to something more than your average Balti.
The restaurant truly deserves all the accolades that it has been awarded, it is wonderful and the number of regular Indian diners is a testament to the quality of the food.
Excuse me, as I know that this is not applicable to the restaurant, but you can imagine the interest I had when I saw that Andy and Arjun had launched a new takeaway service: www.vamaji.co.uk
Arjun and Andy (the Vama Brothers behind Vama) make so secret of launching Vama as a chain of restaurants and takeways, and I wish them all the best, I am all for expanding fine dining in the UK.
But guys, what do you think that you are playing at with www.vamaji.co.uk? We tried it last week, since when does a Chicken Jalfrezi contain: sweetcorn, peas and carrots? I am all for chefs introducing individual touches to recipes, but this did not even contain a single green chilly (for aroma not heat). The meal was frankly disgusting and not all up to Vama's standards. The average rough Balti house would have been better than the meal you dared send us.
A&A - if this is not your intention, be careful not to devalue your great brand. If your intention is to launch a new chain of takeaway service, be mindful that in your delivery area you have considerable competition and in your price bracket you are not going to knock of Bombay Bicycle off the top notch with this very poor quality food.

Unbelievably rude waiter told us off for being fifteen minutes late. How dare they? It was like being back at school! For that sort of treatment there should be minus figures to rate this place. My advice give this den of upstarts a very wide birth. There are now many other Indian restaurants in this class that know how to treat their patrons with some respect.
