Bleeding Heart
your comments review this restaurant and win a bottle of champagne
Went here for the first time recently, an old classic which I have never got round to going to. I was not anticipating amazing things, but good and solid...hmmmmm disappointed. NB this review is based on the restuarant not the other rooms.
I did'nt find the service uninterested as per some of the reviews here, just not very good or professional given the fine(ish) dining prices.
Not given a wine list, especially after asking a couple of times (it was a 7 o'clock so no busy excuses). The table next to us asked for a glass of pink champagne and complained that it took them 30 mins to deliver . However the wine is list good with a to die for Alasce Pinot Blanc by the glass, and a pleasing selection of half bottles (pregnant wife so imporant!), but very balanced on all other fronts and reasonsable. What does disappoint is if your going to have to put the wine on the side and not on the table at least have the decency to pour at the correct time ( a half Puligny Montrachet was ordered).....if i order an obvious food wine do not let me wait for it when the food arrived....I had to ask a few times.
The food. Well my wife seemed to bear and grin it, indeed her risotto was resoanable. But my starter the Tomato Tartar and crab, the Tomato lovely, but the crab with it, was totally powered by the tomato (which was nice), but you may as well served with an ice cube or water biscuit.
My main, the monk fish, rubbery and dull in taste therefore not very fresh. This is the desription 'Bourride of Monkfish, Mussel and Cockles, Saffron New Potatoes and Aioli Cream ' dull third rate and tastless, I failed to taste the saffron or see it, cream yes..alot of it with some sort of herb no garlic taste.
My reckoning is a very bored chef cutting corners...but please do'nt insult me serving something that clearly is not what it says it is.
The famous cheese board....yes no denying this is good, but no waiter with the knowledge to describe them. I am perfectly able to know what brie is, but tell me a little more about the one you have. Ok I did in the end just pick some with the aid of a cheese expert (wife), and they were very good. But please serve them with somebody who at least cares and is knowledgable.
OK....I have banged on about the wine above, but this place is over priced, and stale. They need a new chef, and a more organised waiting staff, the immediate front of house is good. I feel sad that such an institution is living on past galories and not delivering.

My first time in the Bistro and it was just as bad as the fine dining. The unenthused staff served up our under cooked chips and an over cooked steak with a frown. The manager had no time for complaints, making us out to be the bad guys. This was truly a bad experience and I won't go back.

I attended the Tavern section of this establishment on the eve of my brother's wedding. The reservations were made months in advance and at no point did the Bleeding Heart intimate that they lacked sufficient space to seat our party together, accordingly we were somewhat perturbed upon arrival to discover that our tables were dispersed throughout the dining area.
We were offered an uninspiring set menu for the evening, limited to three options for each course, disappointing enough in itself, however by the time I placed my order several of the items on this menu were no longer available, insultingly replaced with such gastronomic delights as hamburger and fries. The simple food was poorly cooked, slovenly served at apparently random intervals and in some cases was entirely inedible.

This place is awful!
The service is so surly and unattentative, and the food was edible at best. Please just avoid.

nice cosy atmosphere, very nice for a romantic night out. But i was there on a business dinner and it was good for that too. Service was good and waiters lighthearted. Food good, but portions very small for what we were paying..

Went here for business with 3 other people. Frankly I was not that impressed. One guest left his starter. My food was OK but nothing special. Service was not good although one of the waiter's uncanny resemblance to Mr. Bean provided some light amusment. It's one redeeming feature was its wine list.

I visited this restaurant with a party of 12. The starters were served an hour after ordering, and although 3 people had ordered scallops, only one received them. The others were served prawns, initially without a word of explanation. Having complained, they were simply told that the kitchen had run out of scallops. One lady was even served her substitute starter after everyone else had finished.
The overall attitude of the staff varied from offhand to rude - the description of the cheeseboard was very perfunctory and the waiter was clearly very irritated at having to give a decent explanation of the choice available.
I will not return.

Definetly the most overall disappointing experience I have had in London. I arrived at 10.25 which was when my booking was made. I was aware that it was a late booking, so I called to confirm the status. The first thing that I was told when I arrived was that I was late and they couldn't serve me. Since it was late to go elsewhere and I wanted it to be a special dinner for my girlfriend I had to fight over the right to eat to which the head manager agreed.
Once there I have to say that the atmosphere was hardly romantic, with rotten flowers on a cheap dirty table cloth. The menu however seemed quite nice.
We ordered a Crab and Avocado Gateau with Caramelized Potato that was nice but tiny portions for 10 pounds. For main course I ordered a Grilled Tournedos of Scottish Beef with Portobello Mushrooms for 23 pounds and my girlfriend got a Roasted Cod with Asparagus Tips and Sauce Vierge. My first thought was that maybe I didn't like the food because I am not used to french food but my french girlfriend was completely appalled as well. My beef was not cooked it was charred and the cod was burnt as well.
The place definetly has no value for money and horrible service. For those who go there often its probably ok, but dont plan a special dinner there
