L'oranger is just the best restaurant I've ever been in London! My best friend invited me for dinner and he knew the restaurant manager Nordine, and for sure, he is the most friendly manager I've met in a restaurant. He came to us many times with very good knowledge on food and that was absolutely great! I've read the previous review comparing JC Breton, but this is not comparable, they are working in two completely different places and I can tell you the atmosphere at L'oranger is much more enjoyable than Ramsay's restaurant!!!!!!! As I am also working in the industry I can tell that Chef Laurent Michel is gonna bring back a michelin star to L'oranger very soon!!! I want to thank them again for the best meal I've ever had for years!

My boss recommended this restaurant, having been several times, so my husband and I went to L'Oranger on a Friday night. We started with pink champagne at the bar, accompanied by the most delicious "nibbles" I've ever had. At our leisure we were shown to our table by the Restaurant Manager, Nordine. The atmosphere in the restaurant was one of intimacy and privacy and comfort.

We had the tasting menu accompanied by 3 different wines. The dishes were superb, I can particularly recommend the scallops and the fois gras both of which were the best of their kind I've ever had. The chicken stuffed with truffle was equally appetising and the service was impeccable. Both Eric, the General Manager and Nordine came over several times while we were there and chatted to us explaining the food and the wine - which was also of an exceptional quality and complimented the food perfectly.

I would highly recommend L'Oranger to anyone, so much so that I have now organised my Christmas party as a private dining event there.

My husband who had been to L'oranger several times in the recent past was very enthusiastic about the restaurant and he took me there to lunch today. He was right. It was just as he claimed. Excellent food, superb and friendly service, most knowledgeable sommelier and very warm atmosphere. A marvellous way to end the week after a bit of shopping in St. James's. I recommend it very highly.

You must be joking.

shocking.

poor service.

average and over complex food.

over priced.

It came as no great suprise when i discovered this place lost its Michelin star in 2005.

No explanation of dishes when presented to you. We sat in a table smack bang in the middle of the room with all and sundry stomping past our table - and i mean stomping.

The staff had all the grace of baby elephants.

A very slimey French Maitre'd - the kind that would encourage your flesh to get up and leave before you did - could not clean the shoes of Jean Claude Breton at Ramsay RHR.

2 courses and 1 and a half bottles of wine £211 for 2 - absolute rubbish.

I'm not accustomed to leaving reviews of restaurants, despite eating out regularly. However, I've just read “Steve's” review (below) and have been moved to write. Perhaps it was Steve’s “manor” (sic) that found him ranged against the staff on that fateful evening? My experience is very different.

In the last two years I have dined at L'Oranger many times and it is, without doubt, one of the finest restaurants in London. I have also come to know the team well. The food, under chef Laurent Michel, is always eagerly anticipated and never fails to delight my guests. The discrete service, from a committed team, is warm and unquestionably professional. Lucio has my full trust and, under his helpful tutelage, I have discovered many wonderful bottles of wine. And Eric, despite Steve’s description, is now so popular with my clients that, regrettably, they greet him with more delight than they sometimes greet me.

I have entertained many friends at L’Oranger. Their experiences are such that most of them are now Regulars there: I think that says it all.

I had the pleasure of dining at L'Oranger a few weeks ago and experienced one of the best meals and dining environments I've had in London over the last few years.

The the dining room is calmly elegant, the food fantastic - I particularly recommend the scallops en croute - and the service impeccably attentive.

I would definitely recommend L'Oranger for a special meal out.

We dived into L'Oranger out of the rain and after a hard days shopping. We were greeted by Eric who swept us off to a table and brought us the most devine food.

He even gave us a little gift as we left.

This is service you rarely see these days.

I have eaten at L'Oranger on a number of occasions and each time I have been impressed by the exquisite food and excellent service provided by all the staff. Service is paramount to any first class restaurant in London and L'Oranger does not disappoint. It carries an air of attentiveness and professionalism the minute you walk through the door.

The Maitre D is an amazing character and dutifully passionate about providing the customer with a first class and enjoyable eating experience. He is courteous and passionate about his job and in particular he has an amazing knowledge of wines.

I would equally recommend L'Oranger for a business lunch, a romantic dinner or just a get together with friends. The food is superb, the wines are excellent and the ambience just right. L'Oranger is certainly worth a visit.

I would like to reply to the comments left on 14 August. As the gentleman stated it is difficult to provide a review if you stay for just 5 minutes, so I would suggest this review is not only unhelpful, but very misleading. It strikes me that Steve would not have been happy with any of the dozen or so tables in this intimate romantic restaurant.

I have had the good fortune to eat at L'Oranger a number of times and have found the service to be direct and unpretentious. The food is beautifully presented and always tastes as good as it looks.

i would not waste my time to comment further on Steve's review, but if you are looking for a accomplished cuisine in agreeable surroundings in St James's you could do a lot worse than to go to L'Oranger
