Kastoori Restaurant IS THE BEST VEGETARIAN RESTUARANT !!
I do not know what Ricky is talking about below, but for the last 15 years what we have been going to Kastoori - both the food and service have been EXCELLENT and never short of their own high standards.
From the starters to the main course all tasted delicious. The reviews which I have read for Kastoori certainly did match and exceed my expectation.
I have taken many friends and work colleagues to Kastoori over the years, even they agree this is the best vegetarian restaurant that have eaten in and they also return time and time again.
The bottom line is that this is the vest vegetarian restaurant that I have ever eaten in.
Note to Ricky: Falooda IS an Indian drink. I would re-check your sources.

As an Indian and have eaten in lot of Indian restaurants so far , I would say I was completely mislead by the positive comments been made on this side about Kastoori. For the start starters were great Pani puri, Dahi puri etc. but they didnt provide enough chutney to go with it and even after asking for it they refused ..(certainly didnt know the reason...and no one bothered to explain why )...
oh well lets come to the drinks.. Falooda.. i would say that they Sell with this name Falooda you will be surprised if you ever find anything like that with this name in India.. so not sure its Indian drink on not..The main course sagg (spinach) was good and it was quite delicious probably the best dish out of all meal. But as its more like south Indian restaurant i was compeltely let down by the Masala dosa.. it was very very average.. so wasnt impressed. Well the last thing and the most important thing. The Bill... they gave the overall figure written on just a plain paper without any thing on it.. ( no invoice it was completly plain paper..) and it was without any detail of price ..it just said what we have eaten no prices etc. .and just the total price.. I wasnt sure how they can get around this in this day and age.. surely its not a professional restaurant..

I went there with some friends who happened to mention my wheat allergy. What service! I was supplied with a menu where they had taken the time to select and mark all the non-wheat-friendly items and they subsequently fussed over me the whole evening, making absolutely sure I didn't touch any of the 'dangerous items' on the table. They also said they cater for many other allergies.
Given that it's vegetarian, they have to work a lot harder to make the dishes different. The flavours were sublime, especially the main course curries (starters were very limited for me). I had the best baby aubergine curry I've EVER had - and that's saying something. Good butter bean and green pepper curries too. Would definitely go back and probably take our young children, as I'm sure they would be catered for ( the evening we went they were several families present.) Well done!

Wow! I've been to a number of vegetarian Indian restaurants in the past, usually taken there by vegetarian friends who insist that I will love the place and that I won't miss having meat in my food... and I'd never returned to a single one of them, until I discovered Kastoori.
I have been back a few times since, and the food has always been excellent. Try the "taste bombs" to start with - eat them immediately when they arrive, and eat them whole. The tomato curry is great, and this is pretty much the only Indian restaurant I go to where I always have dessert!!
The only downside is service - its great when you first arrive, but on busy nights you do seem to get ignored once your mains have been served; this is a real shame as I know some people who would be completely put off by this and wouldn't go back (and if the food wasn't as good as it is, I'd probably be the same - instead I just don't go at the weekend)

Tastes that are so exciting they make you laugh, especially the dahl puri which literally explode with flavours in your mouth. Wonderful food and friendly staff. Always a guaranteed great experience.

We just moved into the area and tried Kastoori for the first time a few weeks ago. We'd read some great reviews, and food did not disappoint! I highly recommend the "Taste Bombs" (dahl puri) for starters. The mains were delicious and flavorful, and the waiter was more than happy to help us with suggestions from the menu.
My only negative comment is that we were thoroughly ignored once we'd finished our main course, and ordering desert took forever . However, the rest of our experience was great and I would definitely go back.

Kastoori is almost certainly the best Indian restaurant in Tooting (which has one of the highest concentration of Indian restaurants in London). In my opinion it is better than Mirch and that is saying something. Each dish has its own very distinct taste and there's a lot of variety.
I had read here that the standards had slipped but went there this evening and found them to be very attentive, checking on us to see that we enjoyed everything, recalling that we had been there before and guessing that it was our friend's first time, and sending out an extra dish with compliments. So, I guess everywhere has its off nights but this wasn't one of them. I can see now why it got a 'gourmand' rating from the Michelin star people - which means it is second only to Chez Bruce in the local area.

I went 3 weeks ago with a big group and was really impressed with the standard and quality of food. Home cooking just like my nanna made it!
However I went last night and was so disappointed it was tragic! I had raved to a vegetarian friend about the place, but the service was absolutely terrible.
Although the starter we ordered (dahi puri) was brilliant - the Thali and several other dishes that followed were not great. This coupled with the appauling behaviour of a few waiters really made me think twice about returning. I just can't stand it when people check their watches and then bring the bill before it's asked for and then ask you if you want to pay 5 minutes later - this in my book is just rude!
However I would still recommend you go and try it for yourself, as I am sincerely hoping that this was a one off!!

Absolutely brilliant - friendly staff and the food is delicious. We always go for the three specials that change every day and they are always lovely. It's so reasonably priced too. I can't wait to go back!

Have been here a dozen times or so. I hate to say it but i think the standards might be slipping. Last 3 visits have been quite disappointing. Apart from the tomato curry, which is always brilliant. I had to send back a bean curry because it tasted like chef had dropped a bag of salt in it. my first 10 visits were great, the food always exceptional. I'm definitely going back though in the hope i just picked an off day.
