I'd have to agree with the food being average... Was disappointed with what we got. I had the duck special and found it was tough and overcooked. On the other hand the atmosphere was fantastic and the service above average. I'm going back tonight to get a 2nd opinion on the food.

I think this place is a little gem. Amongst all the trendy wine bars and rugger b*gger pubs around london you can go here and feel cosey. The service is great (I think this depends on you, the first guy is probably a rude twat). The food is above average for a gastro and the price is just right to get rid of the riff raff and local pikeys... which I am more than happy to pay to keep them and young student types away. Glad you guys didn't all like it, more room for us ;-)

Disappointing food and appalling service sums up this place. It's my local and i would happily use it very regularly but i have finally been put off by the rude waitresses.
I went here at the weekend at 4pm, was told the kitchen was closed until 6pm, which was fine although we weren't allowed to see the menu, after many attempts to convince the waitress that we understood we couldn't order until 6pm she refused to give us a menu. At 6pm we managed to get a menu, only for a reserved sign to be put on the table we were sitting on for 7pm!
My last attempt to find something good about this venue.

We love this place. I think its recently had a change in the kitchen because our food was delicious - great burger with cheese and bacon and bangers and mash to die for. Service was good - we'll be back!

I took my girlfriend here for a relaxed birthday meal on Wednesday and had a great time. Good atmosphere and nice wine. The food, though, was average at best and overpriced for the quality. My duck was overcooked and the cranberry sauce didn't taste of cranberries. And this was meant to be a 'special'. My girlfriend's burger was, again, average and overpriced. Service was fine and it's a nice place to be. If they want to charge £9-£16 for mains they need to make sure they are worth it.

I really think the other reviewers have been to a different place. I love my steaks and have been all over London having them in last eight years or so and i can honestly say the steaks here are as good as anywhere.... ( better than rediculously overpriced Papa Grill or the Freemasons over by Clapham Junction )....the manager is very friendly and efficient and can explain the actual breed of cattle they use for their steaks , which is suprisingly a rare thing in London. The only thing I would say is ask for fries with the steak and not the "Fat Chips" which are indeed soggy and a bit of a waste of time... I must say it really annoys me that other people have such different experiences from me in the smae place.....
