As my office is around the corner from here I have eaten here many times. It is usually my first choice for a business lunch and we have had our company Christmas meal here twice.

The food has always been excellent, well prepared and well presented. The choice of items on the menu is very good, scallops are always nice as are most of the other starters. The service can be a bit spotty and the Maitre de they had there at one time was a really stuck up prat. I haven't seen him for a while now so perhaps he's working somewhere else.

The whole place is pretty small so if you are concerend about the table you are likely to be given then I would call to arrange it when booking. I have walked in off the street but it is often full especially on Friday's.

Booked this place via toptable.we have been previously and been quite impressed but not this time.Restaurant claimed booking was for 9pm although we had written confirmation for 8pm.We were seasted at a table for 4 right infront of the door.It was freezing each time the door was opened and when new diners arrived they all collected next to our table and nearly joined us for dinner! We asked for another table but this was denied so we phoned another restaurant ]and left!I am afraid we will never return to this restaurant and certainly would not recommend the service.

I met two old friends for a pre-Christmas lunch. The place was packed, but the service impeccable and relaxed with no pressure on us.Starters were excellent (tian of crab, seared scallops and warm bacon/boudin noir salad, the mains were first rate (monkfish, sea bass and pheasant), we sat chatting until 3.45 with no pressure to go. First rate lunch. Not cheap but good value for the money.

Having booked a ticket for the theatre last minute we came by le deuxieme.

First impression was great surroundings romantic atmosphere good looking menu.

As we hadn't booked a table we were sniggered at although the restaurant was barely half full. We were then led to the table at the back of the restaurant next to the kitchen

The glasses of champagne we ordered were possibly of yesterdays bottle of champagne.

Tha bread stale, the main course grossly overcooked & almost unpalatable. The service appalling food & drinks service. Don't expect service with a smile.

The only speed was seen at getting the bill to us. My partner and I never complain and even though we really didn't enjoy the experience we left kindly only to be asked if we would like to leave any more of a tip although the 15% optional service charge was added to the bill

Will never re-live this experience

This is a very pleasant spot for a before the theatre meal. The food is very good, and the service is excellent. It is worth noting too that on a hot summer day it was wonderfully air-conditioned.

We arrived early and were ejected by a surly maitre d.; we considered blowing off the booking but we had tickets for Figaro next door and didn't want to hunt.

When we got back ten minutes later he was all smiles and had put on his waistcoat. A personality transplant. But some of the bread he offered us was stale, which shouldn't be the case at these prices.

Starters -- crab and spinach tian, truffled scrambled eggs -- were fresh and delicious. The herb crusted guinea fowl was good but the mushrooms on which it rested were burned, which gave the sauce an odd flavour. Rocket and parmesan salad was plain but fresh.

Desserts were a disappointment: my lemon tart had been cut from an old pie, and one side was dry and congealed. My son's white chocolate torte seemed to be all cream (a gross amount of it) and no chocolate.

A good meal but expensive (120 pounds for 3 with no wine or aperitifs, and spoiled by a few careless touches.

I have been to Le deuxieme many times pre-theate and find that it is the best restuarant in the area. The pre-theatre menu is excellent. The food is reliably good, always have delicious fresh soups on the menu. Service is excellent in terms of being sharp and efficient, perhaps could be a bit friendlier. But what they do, they do extremely well. Have once eaten a la carte and did think it was pricey for what it was, so will stick to the menu, but for pre/post theatre, you can't beat it.

A friend booked us into Le Deuxieme and I was a little apprehensive when I read the low rating on this site. I needn't have worried, the food was excellent - I had foie gras to start which was amazing and a tuna main which again was beautiful but perhaps a little on the cold side. We finished with a delicious chocolate fondant. It worked out at £40 per person with half of us drinking wine, so in my opinion well worth a visit.

Ideal after theatre dining. Very good value for money. Where can you eat a decent meal for £20 ? The goat cheese was excellent and the sword fish too. Have the french fries rather then the mash.
