This Is London

This Is London - 2/5

Thursday, December 01, 2011 - Murmurings of 'Okay, but bland' came from my neighbour as she tucked into her salmon teriyaki rice, while the beef teriyaki option, which was served in a neat pile in an earthenware bowl and made with sirloin steak, was described as 'tender and good' by her boyfriend. After this, things got worse. An assorted katsu platter turned out to be a 'build your own katsu curry', a selection of meat and vegetables covered in breadcrumbs, deep-fried and served with a choice of three sauces. It might have been fun save for the fact that the waitress brought us the wrong order three times and it was served lukewarm.

This place is the best Japanese I've ever been to. I'm a big lover of chicken katsu curry and thought Wagamamas were the ring leader of this but it seems not! Satsuma do the best chicken katsu around, a massive portion with lots of curry sauce and if that wasn't enough you get a side salad and miso soup on the side! As far as starters go the tempura king prawns are amazing and even my friends agreed they were the best they'd ever had! The kiwi and strawberry juice is also lovely. Great place and fortunately quite near where I work for a weekly feast!

This is one of my staple favourites. Although it's Chinese owned and run, there are some Japanese chefs in the kitchen.

The menu is traditional and good and always fresh and excellent quality and the Tonkatsu Curry is the best in town. The sushi is also great.

I went to this restaurant years ago when it first opened and the food was nothing special, and so never went back since.

I went again yesterday with my friends and this time I can truly say that their service is excellent, the food is very reasonably priced considering all our portions were huge (I could not finish one dish!!), and it was delicious! They also have made some truly special concoctions of drinks so it is worth a try! Their fruit juices are not from concentrate, you can really tell they used the real fruits in their drinks from the texture!

Scrumdelicious!

Absolutely lovely dining experience. All the staff were friendly and helpful giving real waiting time! The food was as good as it looked and the prices fair.

Will definitely make this a regular with the girls.

Few years ago, I use to go to Satsuma often with my friends and from my past experience, don't order sushi and only go for the hot food such as yaki soba, the bento boxes and always order green tea tiramisu.

I went there last week with my friend and I was already sad to see that they no longer do the green tea tiramisu. I ordered my favorite drink Calpico (sweet milky yogurt-ish) to only be told they haven't go any so I was even sadder.

I always ordered Katsu bento box which tasted the same except it was a little bit cold. My friend ordered tempura roll which was so awful and over priced.

The service and atmosphere was reasonable but I really hate their seating because I hate sitting opposite my friends and next to strangers with nothing to support my back but I guess that is the way things are and part of their decor.

I probably would go there again to give it another go but it probably won't be until next year!
