Visited Baltic last night and it was a mixed (dry) bag.

Food.....Dry bread to start. Then dry gravadlax and a slow (and overcooked) lamb. Neither of which was satisfactory. However my dining companion had a fish main dish and this was perfectly cooked.

Service....Shabby at best. Downright rude at worst. The waitresses and staff were under the impression they were the most important people in the room and it was a bit of a insult for them to have to explain anything on the menu. Obviously a 12.5 % charge was included automatically.

Shame as the setting is nice (except the bathrooms which are awful).

Not dreadful but won't be back when there are so many better places in the neighbourhood

Went to Baltic last night with friends - and although I've enjoyed it in the past the quality was really patchy this time. The bread was incredibly dry and stale - I tried 3 different kinds and they were all pretty horrid. The sour cream with the blini was most offputting - it was all lumpy, like cottage cheese. I know it was a hot day but they can't have kept it properly refrigerated. And the cheesecake for dessert was really WARM - such a shame. I ate it as I was rather hungry but it wasn't very nice.

The service is fantastic, the wait staff were totally friendly, the rest of the food was fine, so I will go back as it's been much better on previous visits - I hope this was a one-off...

I would like to say some words about dining in BALTIC-Polish cuisine restaurant, or maybe I mistake? Question?

1.How polish cooks know or just have an idea how to cook Georgian food?

2.How polish cooks have knowledge ,how to manufacture Russian cuisine?

3.No questions about Moldavian?

4.What about own Polish food?

5.Mushroom duxelle-10(the worst I ever had), blinis, f-herrings, beetroot and horseradish, aubergine caviar, over cooked Cod, flat bread, frozen from Greek supplier(ODI-You know)

6.Bread-3 days old.

7.Vodka was good!!

8.How you think?

PS:I was realy dissapointed with everithing what I have "enjoy "in maybe perfect Polish restaurant in LONDON.

Celebrated a friend's birthday here with large group. On arrival looked closed but pushed open the large doors to find a cavernous, but cosy, bar and restaurant. Food was excellent, the menu is very different to other restaurants - every dish arrived with everyone interested to see what it was, certainly a few had guessed when ordering! Portion size large so go hungry. Only slight downside was staff were quite slow topping up water, this was however more than made up for by serving of cake. We had brought a birthday cake with us which they brought out with candles then sliced it all up on individual plates with added chocolate sauce, very impressive! Would certainly go again for food and also for just a drink, bar area really nice.

Went there for dinner with a large group on Monday 7th Dec.

I had not been before and to be honest wouldn't have given it a second glance from the street. The entrance is not inviting, but dont let that put you off.

The food was surprisingly good, nothing exceptional but good nonetheless.

Baltic does really let its self down with the staff - they were too few and although not rude, they were definitely not engaging. The group I was with do enjoy a drop of wine and on several occasions we had to ask for our glasses to be topped up - a missed opportunity for them!!

Worth a look if your in the area, but not worth making the journey for

Pretty uninspiring from the outside but a great interior with a cool front bar leading on to an open dining room at the back.

Was spoiled for choice with the menu - something for everybody. I plumped for the gravadlax to start and then the dumplings for main - both were really good, though a small portion of the dumplings would have done. The Kievs and the black pudding all went down well with my colleagues.

The service was slow and a bit surly and the place was pretty empty - but it was a Tuesday lunchtime and we enjoyed ourselves in any case.

Will definitely go back.

First time there and very impressed. The staff were without exception friendly, welcoming and efficient. Started with a vodka shot (excellent). We were offered fizzy, still or tap water immediately and how many places offer tap water without being asked. Both starters (foie gras and smoked salmon) and main courses (rump of lamb) were excellently cooked and fien for portion size. Too full for dessert. The wine was a fraction disappointing (a bit thin and lacking in taste).

Overall I would definitely return.

I had heard that the baltic was the place to go for eastern european food, and they were right! If only i could find a restaurant like this at home... on entering the restaurant, we were seduced a a beautiful cocktail waitress into having a summer cocktail at the bar - we were then led into the main dining area, which really is a superb space.

the blinis were excellent and I had the lamb which was exrtraordinarily succulent. The wine was very good value, and the desserts looked good, although I confess I had no rooom left.

The atmosphere was buzzing and the service was attentive and sleek. I will certainly be back.

Had dinner there on 24th Feb, with a cocktail in the bar first. Cocktails delicious and bar looks and feels lovely. Somewhat stern cocktail maker wouldn't let me put the drinks on the dinner tab for some reason.

Waitress in restaurant was even sterner - some might even say a right misery guts.

We shared the assorted blinis to start, which were OK. Only 2 blinis, which looked and tasted more like Scotch pancakes than the delicious little discs I've had elsewhere. House white wine was french and very nice, a good price too. Mains were sea bass and steak tartare - again both fine, but nothing special. The tartare came with slices of white toast that looked and tasted like Mother's Pride.

The service never warmed up at all - and it wasn't just the one waitress.

Everyone we dealt with was, although not rude, pretty distant and chilly.

Baltic looks nice and I'd certainly pop in there again for drinks or cocktails. The restaurant is a lovely space and the food is OK - nothing to rave about. But there's no joy about the place. They need to cheer up.
