Embassy

Booked this place for my wife's b'day on a Thurs. On arrival we were shown into what remained of the dining area; this consisted of three tables, the rest of the space was given over to long tables set for a big group. Said big group (maybe 30 - 40 people) were standing in the space between our table and where they would eventually sit down.

This presented us with the wonderful prospect of eating our dinner with several strangers behinds approx. six inches from our romantic meal. Needless to say, we declined and left. Front of house staff were very apologetic but we asked twice to see the manager but he / she failed to arrive.

When booking, or indeed subsequently, we were not advised that some sort of office party would be going on.

Overall impression of The Embassy is that it's very much a bar first and a restaurant second.

I had dinner there the other night and to be honest was not keen on the choice of my friend who booked it but he said it had improved and my word how it has, What was once a rather gloomy experience was an evening of great fun. It looks sharperthan it did the last time iI went and the service was great, didnt go to the club later but there was a steady stream going down from the bar. Food was good but could be executed with a little more finese, but that really is nit picking. Highly recommend it and actually more fun than Cecconis just down the road in that the tables are further apart and much more intimate.

Recently a group of friends and I visited Embassy, the atmosphere was sophisticated but relaxed and we had a wonderful evening. The staff were helpful and courteous but not intrusive and the food and wine were exquisite. Highiy recommend a visit.
