Notting Hill Brasserie

Had a great supper here with friends last Saturday. The food was wonderful and would recommend the beef. The atmosphere is great and the layout leaves you feeling uncrowded and in your own space. The pianist helps keep the atmosphere warm and comfortable. Staff are helpful and the wine list is good. Need to book early though, which isn't a bad sign. I'd eat here every week if my wife didn't want all of our spare cash for crazy shopping trips around Sloane Square and Bond Street. In fact if she has one more 'shoe spree' I may never be able to eat out again, ever. Darling, if you read this, please, please, please stop. I'm begging you. Think of the children.

I've dinned here a few times but following a family lunch (for ten) on Sunday to celebrate my son's 18th bithday i thought it high time to add some comments.
Overall, we had a superb lunch and everyone enjoyed themselves. The NHB always nurtures a relaxed atmosphere thanks to the Jazz and well spaced tables. Kids seem welcome and will enjoy the Toucans ! I was surprised that the restaurant was only half full. Some of our party are not regular restaurant goers but soon everyone had relaxed and started to enjoy themselves.
Most of our party had a roast lunch which was excellent on all fronts. I can honestly say it was the best rib of beef i have ever had - made better by generous portions. The lamb was of a similar standard. Others said the same for their main courses and desserts.
The service is provided by a reliable set of old hands but you do wish that they 'sparkled' a little bit more, Our glasses required charging a few times and the air conditoning is set a little low but t overall these are minor gripes that didnt detract from a thoroughly enjoyable lunch. The wine list is made up of good variety of quality wines though it would be nice to see a few more in the £25 - £35 range. A bottle of Cloudy Bay was £52.
By the way, i chose this restaurant over The Boxwood Cafe and felt i made the right choice for a great Sunday lunch.

I cannot tell you how excited I am to have found this fab restaurant. Amazing food and service AND live jazz. The whole experience was the best I have ever had in London and that's after 14 years of eating out in this town.
I cannot recommend the Notting Hill Brasserie too highly.

Have you ever, ever felt like this? When strange things happen, are you going round the twist? Well, certainly not in the Brasserie. Wife, Doreen, and I paid a visit to this highly recommended restaurant in Notting Hill. I don’t usually take reco’s, but this one came in the safe hands, of David Stock, a reliable partner. He thought I should go. I did. And I will be going again. When I go to London that is…of course, you see visiting Notting Hill for a meal is one thing, but making a journey all the way from East Yorkshire is quite simply another.
Yes, the meal. D I V I N E…divine. I had the lamb and I can quite simply say it was the best lamb I had ever had. I tried to ask where it was from…Wales or New Zealand but I didn’t understand the young man, polite as he was, my hearing is not as good as it once was.
But my ears are good enough to recommend to anyone regardless of whether they like lamb, or eating, to visit the Brasserie for the music alone. ‘Jazz?’ they say as they scoff into their croissants, ‘what is Jazz?’ An acquired taste perhaps…not so much acquired, but a mature taste, a refined taste, and I love it. Lashings of lamb and jazz, I was in heaven. Doreen too loved the music.
Enough, time has elapsed. But I recommend this place to anyone. Fabulous cocktails, super food, great music, and enough space for an intimate meal. D I V I N E.

We had our first visit to this quite charming and elegant restaurant. The setting and decor are splendid. Whilst the food was impressive the service was disappointing for a restaurant of this standard (unfortunately, just a place where people dont know that a warm welcoming, a bit of kindness, a smile and goodby could make all the difference).
The starters were mouth watering but ridiculously meager. The rest of the meal was superb, cooked to perfection and visually stunning. The service was painfully slaw and impersonal. The staff were abrupt and disintrested. At the end they were paying more attention to tidying and cleaning up then attending to customesrs. We were quite annoyed by his so we decided to pay the bill and leave.
I really did not think that we got value for money and felt a bit cheated.

I had lunch here with my girlfriend, not 5 hours ago. At first glance the decor and atmosphere was exactly what we needed after a heavy night out. Relaxed, muted and clean. Almost cozy. I really like what they did with the place.
Now, we were hungry. I mean starving! So we jumped straight in with the bread rolls. 3 on offer and still warm and soft. Perhaps they make them and perhaps they just warm them, I'm not too sure. They were so good that the thought of tucking into the starters saw us expectant and foot tappingly excited.
Now I am a man who has recently found reason to stop eating at places that serve Foi Gras. Take a look at the PETA website and you'll see why. But for some reason, I overlooked the fact that it was on the menu. It's difficult to go to nice restaurants and avoid it. So I'm limiting my disgust by just encouraging people to stop ordering it rather than not going to any nice restaurants anymore.
The starters were very good. I had the Beef salad which to my taste needed a little more balsamic vinegar but was otherwise perfect. The girl in tow with whom I plan to have my children, had the mushroom and egg soup. Hmmm, I thought. Doesn't really sound up my street. Well, what do you know. It was good. The bit of soup I had was rich and tasty... full flavoured mushrooms. The plate did actually look like a smiley face with the egg on one side and the cream on the other, but on the whole, very well presented.
Now the. I'm sure if I were a man to start tucking into a bottle of wine at midday after a drunken night out, I would have had a better experience of the mains. Sdly Im not. The Duck was very good but all together far too salty. The gravey was salty the capers were salty the duck was salty. A good glass of still water went down a lot better than the actual meal. So marks lost for the bad main course. As for my girlfriends, well the squash tart was a blessing. But its not too difficult to get squash or pumpkin wrong, is it. It just has a great flavour and however you decide to present it, it will always come up trumps.
So with no wine the bill was around £25 per head. Not bad and we thought worth it, just to pay for the amount of salt on my plate... Salt of that quantity is quite expensive, after all.
Anyway, go there, try it, see what you think. Its cheap enough to give it a go.

I have to say I'm surprised at the variable reviews so far; my boyfriend took me here for a surprise birthday supper last night and I have to say that it was superlative! Maybe we picked well, maybe we got lucky with the staff, but either way I can only talk positively of the experience. From the menu I can highly recommend the scallop starter (which I could cheerfully have eaten twice), the duck main course and the truffle cheesecake (oh and the chateaubriand my partner had was fantastic too). Service couldn't have been more charming and I liked the live music, which I didn't find at all intrusive. All in all, an experience utterly out of the top drawer (though as for VFM, can't comment as I wasn't the one who picked up the bill...)

We had our wedding reception here with a set menu in their room. The great thing is the room hire is free. We had canapes and drinks beforehand at the bar, followed by our three-course lunch in the room. At 35 a head for the three-course meal and only 10 a head for the canapes, it was fantastic! People loved the food and the service was nice. The owner even stopped in to make sure everything was great and was most gracious. Fantastic if you're getting married at the Kensington and Chelsea Registry Office. A fantastically memorable day!

we had our christmas party here. Service was good, food was disappointing(the menu changed at the last min, and what was on offer was poorly served up)
starters were ok, desert was ok,main course was poor, overall, nothing to special !
cocktails were so so, but it does have a nice atmosphere !
I can only say i guess this was down to the fact we were a party of 30 or so.

In short, its nothing special to write about this place.
Overpriced, poor and chaotic service, nicely presented but not particulary tasty food,lively-loud music.
Restaurant lacks class and professionalism.
I don't mind paying extra but I expect to be impressed at least a little and we weren't in this place.
