Bangladesh Curry Mahal

Norul (sorry if I got the spelling wrong) is the owner and he is a wealth of knowledge and very nice guy. This restaurant has been around Putney for over 30 years (he tells me over a beer while I wait for my order). Once the mainstay of the Bobby's walking the beat, who were previously housed opposite on Upper Richmond Rd, the Bangeldeshi Curry Mahal still does some great food. Despite the dated decor and the usually unfilled dining room that lacks any great ambience (unless you get a few lads in there).

I am sure it is only the victim of the High St mentality (and its lack of proximity to it) as well as the abundance of Indian take-aways and restaurnats that permeate the UK which has seen its fall from grace in terms of popularity, but if you are in the area and looking for something sub continental then give this place a go.

I have visited here many times and have found the food freshly produced and authentic. And if you like a bit of spice to your night ask for the Phal....and then reassure them that yes you like it hot !

This is a great example of quality bangladeshi food. It is better than what i make at home.

Used this site to find a curry house in Putney for my mates 50th Birthday..Great choice in selecting this curry house. Family run and going since 1971 says the owners son. Well the food was excellent and I can see why these guys have been around for so long. The price was dear but the food scrummy

i have been eating curry for more than 20 years, yet until this place i havn't found worse. its deffinetley not reccomended as this place lacks in poor quality and very bad service. the food is better cooked by my wife their not professionals- sorry guys

Not sure if the previous reviewer actually went to the restaurant, I say this because the food is actually very good; the service was outstanding mainly due to the knowledge one waiter showed on the history of the country and its relation to the food. The food was reasonably priced and the beer (I forget the name, I think Bengal) was very good too, however I suggest buying the smaller of the two bottles as the large is an awful lot. I would certainly recommend you going.

I recently went to the Bangladesh Curry Mahal and found the food very tasty and at a reasonable price. My family and I were impressed with the service and friendliness of the staff.

The atmosphere was inviting and I'm definitely going back there with friends.

Of all the restaurants in Putney, Bangladesh Curry Mahal had to be rated the lowest in my book. The food was cold and horrid, the service was perpostrous and it definitely was NOT good value for money.
