I have been to this restaurant several times over the years. I dined there last evening and was delighted to find the standards of food, service and atmosphere were still very good. What an achievement for everyone concerned!

Dont agree with Michael review. I have been going there for nearly 8 years and consistency is one off the key at the cafe. As for your discrimanatories remark on the gallic arrogance it is far from justified. And in fact they got brazilian, australian, polish and many other nationalities. Are you sure you went to le cafe du marche???

Tucked away down a little alley. A perfect very french style restaurant. Fantastic menu and food was exquisite. Waiters all french and extrememly helpful, especially as I have a wheat allergy and they were very willing to please. Definitely go for any occasion.

Can't agree with Michael of Clerkenwell - I've eaten there on numerous occasions and it has been consistently excellent (the beef in particular!). As for Gallic arrogance - all part of the service and so long as you give as good as you get, everyone's happy!

This is a little treasure restaurant, liked the grenier a lot. Attentive service and great food.

The guy from brittany was excellent.(christopher I think)

Will go back for sure.

About the salt or the so-so service it did not affect us. Food excellent

Mutton dressed as lamb. This place should be good - great hidden location, very pretty space, near Smithfield meat markets. But we found it a huge disappointment. Small pokey tables, very corporate clientelle on a Friday evening. And above all, unimpressive food and so-so service. The beef was tough, under-cooked and not available for one. Everything was over-salted. The sorbest were a welcome relief, light tangy and refreshing. The range of wines was interesting but relatively expensive. Most of the staff are attentive but a few had a strong air of gallic arrogance. Quite outrageous is the automatic 15% service charge, yet the liberal application of 'supplement' costs to many dishes and the non acceptance of Amex. Very one way in terms of charging - it doesn't add up. A reasonable per head cost became an expensive night out by the end. We're local, and we won't be returning.

Christophe there head waiter is "la creme de la creme".

Best atmosphere in town, and the cote de boeuf is to die for.

Dinner for 6, excellent attentive service, reasonable value, food good but why, oh why, so much salt on everybody's main course?

In December of 2005 Iarranged a private dinner at Le Rendezvous and was incredibly impressed with the organisation and the food not to mention the value for money. My boyfriend and I returned this last weekend and dined in Le Cafe. It was just as I remembered it to be - absolutely wonderful. The food was sublime, teh service impeccable but personal and the wine list expert. We were both very impressed that the fine claret we ordered was decanted prior to serving. What a wonderful place and a wonderful evening. I'll definitely be returning.
