I've been going to Mildreds for the past 6 years but last Friday I have to say my love affair was well and truly over with the place.

I think they have the rudest, most unhelpful staff in London, the food is ok not great and the only reason to go is that someone hasn't opened an alternative.

Don't believe the hype!

Unfortunately i picked this restaurant out of all of london when i came down for the weekend as i thought the food must be good based on the reviews. My friends and i had walked quite a distance to get there. We were told 30 minutes wait which we were expecting as it was a friday night. There are no seats for people waiting at the bar. We thought the chairs by the window were and sat down only to be told they were also for diners we said we'd move as soon as a group of 2 people came in. We had been waiting half an hour when the waiter without even a glance around the room gave a free table to people waiting 10 minutes. We should have left there and then, waiter was very rude to us and said he thought we'd bu**ered off, yes actually said this to us. I got the impression he didnt like 2 of us sitting by the window as he said it wasnt normally allowed. Nice.

We were not pleased with him and said so. I dont know what possessed us to carry on waiting for a table, we were determined this extremely rude individual would not stop us trying this food that was supposed to be good. My starter soup actually came with very stale bread. The vegetables in my curry had not been properly chopped or cooked, red pepper was raw and green beans not cooked and not trimmed, straggly ends intact. Couldnt even eat it, I was very disappointed and wondered whether it was deliberate it was so bad. Staff were not surprised when we gave it back uneaten, my friends were at least edible but thats about it, quite poor indeed. Truth needed to be told im afraid, whole story would take too long too tell but waiter spoke to us very rudely on a number of occasions trying to get us to leave. We said we wouldnt pay for my meal, they said we didnt have to pay for any of it. Doesnt take long to figure out why.

My friend and I went to Mildred's last night. We arrived at 18:45 and the restaurant looked very busy so we went for a few drinks and returned at 20:00. The rstaurant was still very busy though we did not have to wait long for a table, albeit we shared the table with 2 others but that didn't matter.

Our order was taken and food arrived fairly quickly which was great as we were very hungry! Thank goodness we didn't order starters too. The portions were a good size and neither of us managed to finish, although I tried as the Asian vegetables were delicous. My friend had the coconut curry which was scrummy too. The side dish of chuncky sweet potato fries were also very yummy. All this washed down with a dleicous bottle of organic red wine, which was one of the nices bottles of wines I have had recently. We chose not the cheapest bottle at £16.95 but well worth it.

We found the staff very chilled, friendly and generally offered good service. Total bill was £40 which we consdered to be very reasonasble.

Would we go back...Definately!

I had seen Midlreds on a BBC3 program and therefore my girlfriend and I ate there last night. We arrived at 7:20, knowing they didn't take bookings. That didn't bother us so we had drinks at the bar and then we were sat within 20 mins. It was very busy which did surprise us, as it was a Tuesday night.

The first impression is that the restaurant is small and noisy but with a warm and friendly atmosphere. The tables are closely packed together but yet you are still able to hold a conversation without having to shout. You do not feel under pressure to finish your meal quickly and therefore you can relax and enjoy your time there.

Despite the fact neither of us are vegetarians, the menu had a wide variety of dishes which anyone would enjoy. We had the Goyoza Dumplings and the Houmous and Babaganoush to start, with the Asian Stir Fried Vegetables for a main course. The quality of food was superb, packed full of flavour and the portion sizes were just right. If you like a very sickly but yet great desset, the Chocolate and Pecan Browine is a must.

Both of us found the service was hospitable, friendly and warm. Our Waitress knew what was in the dishes without having to ask and no one bothered us every 2 minutes asking if everything was OK. The entire team actually were very friendly and a credit to the restaurant industry.

Overall, we found Mildreds a great place to eat and will definately go back and recommend it to many more people. We had 5 courses, a side order and 4 drinks for a little over £40 and I cannot think of many places in London with that kind of value for money.

A must for everyone and well worth a visit.

I've been a regular at Mildreds for years now and always loved eating there. I must admit that the last 3 times I have been my food order has been wrong and the service just keeps getting worse. Going to give it a miss for a while and hope things improve!!! The sweet potato fries are still the best, just hope the service gets better.

The food was good but was concerned that the loos didn't have any soap in the dispenser which made me wonder if the staff washed their hands afterwards - along with the clientele!

As a confirmed meat eater I don't often venture into vegetarian eateries, but I will definitely be going back to Mildred's for the food if not the service.

First time visitors should note that they don't take bookings; won't seat you until your whole party's turned up and do not accept credit card payments, only cash and debit cards.

The restaurant was very busy during my visit and extremely noisy. It is not a place for a quiet meal and we had to talk quite loudly to be heard above the noise.

Our meals turned up fairly quickly but some of the staff were abrupt and not particularly helpful. That being said the food was good and I had what is possibly my tastiest burgers ever - it definately gave most of the meat varieties a run for their money. My burger was accompanied by some fantastic sweet potato chips and a wonderful dip. The desserts were also quite good - my steamed ginger pudding came with some wonderful tasting custard.

Mildred's is definitely worth a visit, go solely for the food and you shouldn't be dissapointed.

Not being a vegetarian I was a bit miffed when it was set as the venue for my friends and I to meet up.

When we all got there we were shown upstairs to the private dining room which has a very interesting array of photos on the walls. That was just the start of what turned into a very impressive evening. True the staff werent as helpful as other places but i found this to be quite a relief after far too many restaurants asking how things are every 2 minutes. The food was so well cooked that I have found myself craving to return - mostly for the Mushroom and ale pie which has more flavour than most of the meat variations I have had.

I would reccomend Mildreds to anyone as a great place to eat be them Vegetarian or not.

I would have to agree that the service lets Mildreds down but the food and ambience more than makes up for it. The lady took it very well when a waiter spilt a whole glass of champange over her - it was hilarious! Great for vegetarians - great choice of meals which makes a nice change from the usual uninspiring dishes at other restuaurants.

I had heard about Mildred's from my partner who said 'it was the place to be for vegan / vegetarian food back in the 1990's' So being recently converted to vegetarianism me and my better half though we'd give it a go. From the outside Mildred's looks like a very small sitting room of a restaurant but as you walk through the door it extends way back with plenty of bright natural light and ample tables. We went on a Saturday lunchtime and the place was packed.

The service was mixed (some helpful, some not) We were eventually served by an extremely helpful red cheeked Kate Winslet lookalike waitress who was able to help out with regards to certain ingrediants on the menu.

The menu itself was very comprehensive and easy to follow, the portions of good size, however, a little slow on delivery (we had to wait for about 30 minutes for our food) and again the price was a bit expensive. As for the atmosphere, well the restaurant was completely packed from the moment we arived to the moment we left. So overall not what I expected, but as in life nothing ventured nothing gained and all that. It wasn't excellent by any means but well worth a look.
