You’re a mixed bag Mildreds. Whenever i’ve had the mushroom and ale pie, a deep and smoky brown gunk under a perfect pillow of pastry i’ve thought you were wonderful. And with the excellent mushy peas and a half decent beer on the side, you’ve sometimes seemed like the perfect pre-West End, not horribly overpriced, venture.

But when i’ve strayed away from the pie i’ve been severely let down. It was a good job i was concentrating on wooing someone when i was with you a year ago – rather than the hugely underwhelming curry you served up (my memory suggests there was plum involved, but i’m probably wrong). And i remember ordering the kind of pasta once which aimed at subtle flavours, and ended up tasting of nothing.

I think if i stick to THAT pie though, i’ll keep visiting...

Mildred's food is simply fantastic. Don't come here if you want a quiet romantic meal with no one else around but do come if you love a variety of Veggie food, a decent bottle of organic house white and the best white chocolate and pistachio cheesecake in town.

The staff will not fawn all over you but if you treat them like human beings rather than servants they are all very charming and have a good sense of humour. The bread and olives are a must have and although everything I've eaten here is bloody yummy the artichoke crostini and tostada with courgette and aubergine are particularly outstanding.

I hate to cast aspersions on everyone's taste (maybe I just went on an off night) but this place was supremely disappointing. Everything was exceedingly overpriced for small portions and not-so-fresh ingredients. I could eat at the mind-blowing The Gate in Hammersmith for the same price and have my palate in an orgiastic frenzy.

I have been twice to this place and I certainly wont be back.

Sat at a tiny table with my partner and was asked by a very curt waitress 'do you mind sharing a table?' I said I did actually mind as I was feeling cramped already. She then got highly agitated and said 'we have a policy that you have to share' I asked why she bothered to ask if I minded then. The main problem was the attitude of the staff. I felt on edge the whole meal. Cant really remember the food as a result.

I was dragged back by a pal and sat right by the door a few months later and was amazed as some members of a large party were told (with no apology) they could not be seated until all the party was present, so the couple (with a child) waited in the street! Shocking. I was almost tempted to say they could sit with us until the rest of them arrived

I don't need to be fawned over but a smile would be good.

Such a shame as veggie places are so rare

last night: staff charming and helpful but food mediocre and overpriced - do they know that lentils are not supposed to be crunchy?

I visited Mildred's tonight and I wasn;t impressed with my food at all. I've been wanting to come here for years but the waiting time to be seated was always at least an hour. Tonight it was down to 20mins - great! We had a drink at the bar whilst waiting.

I shared a starter -hummous and babaganoush with chilli oil and chargrilled flat bread - with my boyfriend - which was delicious!

the main took some time to come out - I ordered another glass of organic white wine which was corked - so it was sent back after the 1st sip. this wasn't replaced for 20 mins. :(

The mains arrived - my boyfriend's mixed mushroom, porcini and ale pie served with fries and mushy peas - was amazingly tasty - Great infact - mine on the other hand - the 'sunblushed tomato and buffalo mozzarella risotto cake served with wilted spinach, green beans and grape mustard cream sauce' was not so good. The beans had been chargrilled to a crisp and turned over by the chef so that I couldn't see the burnt bits and the risotto in the 'cake' had been undercooked - leaving my risotto crunchy and not very digestible. I sent this back too...... I felt very embarrassed.

I was still waiting for my replacement of wine too.....

I never send anything back - I'm not a fussy eater - I just picked the wrong dish tonight.

Staff were very apologetic and didn't charge me for my meal or glass of corked wine.

Choose you courses carefully - or eat at home

There is no place like Mildreds. it is unique and as that i am sure makes a lot of people uncomfortable. Yes the waiters are camp, the music is all over the place, and the it is a restaurant with a relaxed cafe attitude. It is all these plus all of what you can read on all reviews that makes this place so spectacular and fantastic. If you love to be waited on, for your wine to be topped up every five minutes, to not care about what else your waiter really does for a leaving, this place is not for you.

It is also and foremost the great quality of the food and the relationships you will eventually manage to develop with the table next to yours or the ones , as yourself, waiting for a table by the bar, where the fun tables are!

Be ready to share the ketchup bottle. THIS PLACE IS ABOUT FOOD, HAVING A RELAXED FUN TIME and making friends.

Get there early, if on a group make sure you arrive at the same time, and foremost make sure you are nice to the staff!! They will pay back in the same manner.

Have the chocolate torte, and please do not ask for your burger well done, they have heard it a million times before!!.

I went to Mildred’s with my boyfriend at the beginning of July, and had a very pleasant experience. We received quite good service, although it was difficult to catch the waiter’s eye at times; he seemed to be constantly rushing all over the place. Nonetheless, when he was serving us, he was polite and friendly.

To start, I had the dumplings which, while nice, were just average – they tasted like something that could come out of Wagamama’s, which is not what I want of a place that isn’t Wagamama’s! But like I said, they weren’t bad, just not spectacular. Additionally, there were only five dumplings, which works out to £1.10 per dumpling – wasn’t really worth it, I don’t think. My boyfriend has the hummus and baba ganoush with flatbread, which looked (and tasted) amazing. I was pretty jealous that I didn’t order that instead, seeing as there was a lot more of it than of my dumplings.

For mains, I had the green cococnut curry – very filling and I couldn’t eat all of it. A real mix of flavours, and I was quite impressed. The boyfriend had the stir fried vegetables with tofu. Weirdly presented – the tofu was a big block on the top of the veg, rather than actually chopped up and stir fried with them. It was also rather chewy and tasted like it had been either left in the pan for too long or left on the side for too long before serving.

We were too full for desserts, but had a few beers with the meal, which were well priced for a restaurant in Central London. They also had three vegan beers and ciders, a selection with which I was quite surprised!

The restaurant itself has quite a nice ambience; aside from the waiters rushing around, it seems pretty relaxed. I disagree with the reviewer below who didn’t like the window tables; we sat at one and I really like it. With it being a hot day, it was good to get some fresh air, and we could also people watch!

I’ll definitely be returning.
