Very sad to hear that Neal Street will be closing. It was going to be the first stop on our next visit to London.

We had an awsome experience there this past Summer. The food, service, and atmosphere made for a perfect evening for myself, my wife and two friends.

The squab was to die for as was the wild mushroom soup , the wines were a wonderful compliment to the meal, and the deserts just the right thing to finish the day.

The service, at least by our server, on that night, could not have been better. Attentive, helpful, and very knowledgeable of the menu and wine list.

We loved it and will follow the Carluccio's wherever they may go.

It's such a shame that this restaurant will be disappearing in a few weeks time. Apparently, the landlord has decided to redevelop the area, and Carluccio has to move out.

So, knowing this we booked a "last supper" here to sample the fare one last time.

What a great night. The service was friendly and fast, the atmosphere great and the food superb.

We obviously sampled the mushrooms and truffle (it's difficult not to) and I had the best gnocchi I've ever had. So light, so full of flavour. It's a real shame that I'm not going to get the chance to go back again.

To top the night off, Antonio himself was sitting a table or two away from us.

I hope that he'll be able to find another location to open up a new restaurant that's as good, if not better, than Neal Street.

From the decor to the food I was left feeling cheated. My scotch fillet was so fatty that I had problems cutting into it, it was also swimming on a plate of oil for some unknown reason. The vegetable assortment was very limited and I ended up with peppers mixed with pine nuts and sultanas, they were mixed in such a sweet, sickly, oily sauce that I had heartburn all night...Poor and pricey...I must however say that the staff were very friendly.

This has been a favourite treat for many years-we had so many great ,delicious, and memorable meals here.

BUT-and a BIG one--the last couple of years we only went once a year-and both times found the menu boring-it was on one occasion difficult to find anything we fancied. The service used to be friendly,individualised-now its average.Come on Antonio-you did it once- whats happened?? I am about to check the online menu-and decide whether to bother coming up to Christmas!

We had a great experience at Neal Street before the theater. First off the decor was clean, bright, hip; decorated with hand carved walking sticks made by the owner. The service as excellent. To start: a good bottle of wine & the sharing of three appetizers, the sauteed mushroom dish was delicious, the Caprese salad was fresh and tasty as can be, as well as a wonderful light pasta dish with shaved truffles. Although sated already, we continued to eat and eat & then having finished our meals asked to try some grapa. To our delight our waiter brought over a cart of sparkling crystal bottles, perhaps 30 or so, explained how grappa was made & let us experience the distinctive flavors of various kinds we chose to taste. Grapa is not for the weak of heart! But it was fun and it is Italian!!!

I went recently for a pre-theatre dinner and I was terribly disappointed.

A previous reviewer wrote 'boring food for boring people'. I wouldn't like to comment on the other customers, but yes, the food was very plain.

The rabbit we ordered was tough and over-cooked. The ravioli was average. The restaurant was nearly empty, the only other punters being a table of hapless tourists.

I often work in Milan, and you cannot even begin to compare the dull fare on offer in Neal St with the carefully prepared and simple, seasoned food you find on every street corner in an Italian city.

By the way, I was also very disappointed with the River Cafe in Hammersmith which comes with a big reputation. Next stop, Luciano, so fingers crossed.

Having eaten here many times myself and loved the food I booked my boss and some colleagues a table for an informal dinner. High praise all round for the venue, the food and wine - and of course my impeccable taste!!! Great for a tasty Italian meal pre-theatre and a pleasant haven from Neal St and the Covent Garden bustle.

This is a fine restaurant for an occasion for a couple or small group of friends. My wife and I visited on a Saturday evening.

The place has a good atmosphere, with the tables well spaced. The service was polite and polished, attentive but not pushy, and able to handle a full restaurant in a timely fashion. The food was prepared and presented excellently. The calves’ liver and chocolate dessert being especially notable. Some may find the food short on quantity, but it is definitely high on quality. The wine and drinks list is generally pricey, but again the quality is good.

The establishment would not win any prizes for value for money for the food, but for the overall experience, and leaving the restaurant well fed, content and relaxed, I would recommend it for special occasions.
