We ate at L'Aventure last night and found the food and the service quite good. This is our favourite restaurant north of Marylebone. The previous writer should have been unlucky. Give it another try!

DINNER ON SATURDAY NOVEMBER 30TH
On Wednesday 4th December I wrote to the Manager by letter complaining of the above meal, as no response has been received I am writing this review,
We had dinner with four other friends, six of us in all, at a round table at the very front of the restaurant at the right hand side, when looking in the window from the street .Our table was boked for, 8pm.
The table was very cramped and the restaurant, shortly after our arrival at 8pm was virtually full. The booking was made in the name of our good friends, who have been and are regular patrons of long standing.
Service throughout the whole evening was exceptionally slow, primarily because all the waiters and waitresses were at the other end of the restaurant and we appeared to be out of their line of sight
My wife ordered two starters, when the orders were taken. I did not want a starter and I told the waiter that I preferred to have a dessert and I would lime the Tarte Aux Pommes , in case it had to be ordered in advance A few minutes later the waiter returned to say that there was no smoked salmon( my wife did not want the pancakes or anything creamy and so asked for plain smoked salmon. She had asked for plain smoked salmon and when the waiter took the order had said nothing about it not being available. The Maitre d' came over to inform us that there was no smoked salmon as the salmon pancakes were pre-prepared.She then suggested my wife should have the Salade de Coeur d'Artichaut instead.
My wife had not wanted this but accepted it as an alternative and agreed to it as a starter.
My wife had also ordered the Goat's Cheese Tart for her main course, but as a starter size. The order had been taken at the start of the ordering, without comment, by the waiter
The Maitre d' then came over again and told us that this Tarte "was also off the menu"!. Eventually, after some discussion the Maitre d' offered for the Chef to make my wife a Tart with vegetables, NOT with Goat's cheese as originally requested
This duly came after a considerable delay and was NOT COOKED , it contained raw courgette and tomato and was tasteless. My wife left it.
We were both very upset, but as we were with friends it would have been totally improper to complain there and by then.I believe we had already made our displeasure known to both the waiter and the Maitre d'
I had ordered the Venison and " the waiter asked how it was to be cooked and I replied "medium". He said that Chef cooks it pink" as if he had not heard me. My wife commented that if that was my preference, that is what the waiter should ask the Chef to cook. The waiter then repeated that it should be pink! I replied that I wanted it cooked " medium" I have eaten Venison many times previously and I have always asked for it medium cooked. and I have never before entered into what was becoming an embarrassing argument with the waiter. There were NO vegetables served with the main courses.
When we asked for sparkling water we were offered Badoit. and when we asked for Perrier we were informed that it was not being served as it was not iced. We then said that we would be perfectly happy if ice and lemon were provided. The waiter eventually brought the Perrier but without the ice and lemon! My wife just left it there as had had enough by that stage
The waiter then cleared the main course plates from our table and after yet another long delay returned to take the Dessert orders. I ordered the Tarte Aux Pommes, as mentioned at the very beginning of the meal, only to be told that " it was off the menu" and that there were no more portions available.
So, my wife had one course which she did not choose and did not particularly care for and a very small portion of another, I had one course only
To add insult to injury the coffee came stone cold ( Expresso) , but by that time I had lost the will to live
The Bill " un-numbered save for "Table A" and "Number of Persons 6" showed the item for " food" at £226.50 " ( exclusive of service). Drinks, Coffees, Water and Brandy were all charged for in addition. The menu is in any event limited to six Starters, Six Main Courses and six Desserts
We were totally dissatisfied with the meal , service, and very poor value for money.
