The a la carte looks pricey, but the set menu at £17.50 for two courses including a glass of prosecco is a bargain, especially with decent bread and an amuse thrown in as well. Food quality was good, a pumpkin salad starter with pasta-like slivers of pumpkin and pomegranate seeds didn't quite work, as the pumpkin seemed undercooked, but at least was inventive. Just a pity the amuse was pumpkin based as well. Main course was very good, belly pork was very fatty but delicious and with near perfect crackling on top, and a grape reduction the sweetness of which worked well and a quite bitter veg side that cut nicely through the fat. A bottle of perfectly drinkable sicillian red at £14(half the price of pretty much anything else on the list), and coffee with some biscuits (the latter a tad steep at £3.50) brought the whole lot in at £28 a head including service. Service was very good throughout, unobtrusive yet friendly, exemplified perhaps by the fact that when two of us ordered coffee at the end, enough biscuits were brought for three. The place was quiet, but not dead for a Monday, a couple of other large tables were filled and so the atmosphere was indeed convivial. I'm not sure I was quite persuaded to return for the significant jump in price to the carte, but I don't rule it out, and will definitely be back for the set menu which I understand changes weekly.
