La Poule au Pot
your comments review this restaurant and win a bottle of champagne
I went there two days ago and had a terrible experience.
The waiters are extremely rude and pay more attention to each other than their guests. We got the menus after sitting at the table for 30 minutes waiting, and the food was very disappointing when the plates were slammed in the table 1.5 hours after we got there. Food was horrible anyway, and do not ask for a dessert unless you fancy an icy crème brulee…
Stay away, there are too many good restaurants in London to waste time and money at this place.

My friends and I ate at this restaurant last weekend and we were delighted with the food, service and atmosphere of the restaurant. We all tried something we hadn't had before and none of us were disappointed.
We also found it to be reasonably priced - despite drinking a bottle of champagne!
I'd definitely recommend this restaurant and would eat here again.

second rate food and service..
for this amount of money I at least expect a forced smile could'nt even manage that.
Food was as reviewed before.
I guess your served the leftovers from the day before as our vegetables were inedible..
waste of money and time..

Come on people, this restaurant is straight out of the seventies! It did have a lovely atmosphere, but the food was just terrible - my crab starter had lots of bits of shell in it, and my husband's steak looked like it had seen better days. I have no idea why it's so expensive - on a par with hakkasan or The Wolsely. To me this is just a bistro, no big deal. Oh and whatever you do, don't order vegetables - what turned up on the table resembled airline food a little too much for my liking.
The funniest thing is when the waiter asked me if I liked the dinner and I said it was just okay, he replied "Yes, I know what you mean!". Will never go back. It really was a disappointing way to spend my birthday after reading all the glowing reviews and making the schlepp out to Chelsea.

I love this restaurant. My partner and I have been 4 or 5 times and it never disappoints us. We went last night and i have to say it was exceptional even by their standards. I had the special of halibut which was literally phenomenal and my boyfriend had venison cooked to perfection. Leave space for cheese if you are a cheese lover. I;m no expert but we eat out a lot and we know what we like. This was fabulous, rustic cosy atmosphere and great service. My perfect my night out. £120 for 2 people, champagne cocktail, 3 courses, bottle of nice wine.

Twice a year I lunch with my oldest friend in Town to celebrate our respective birthdays - which are exactly 6 months apart.
Over recent years we have dined at some of the best venues. Wilton's, The River Cafe, Guinea Grill and Rules to name just 4. On this occasion we booked at LPOP.
On the positive side, the restaurant was charmingly decorted (if a little dated and cliched) and there was a good atmosphere - packed with sophisticated Belgravia ladies. We had a lovely table overlooking Orange Square and our wish to have a long and leisurely lunch was respected - with no hint of irritation that we took an hour to order as we were so busy catching-up on 6 months-worth of news.
As for the food - all I can say is that it was "OK". There was nothing wrong with it - but equally there was nothing memorable about it either. It was.... OK.
The bread and the starter were the best part of the meal. Sadly, the main course arrived right on top of the starter (so fast that the waiter had not finished re-setting the table when another turned up with our food). The red wine we had ordered to go with the main course arrived 10 minutess after we had started eating - and my lamb (requested pink) and my friends vennison (rare) were both overcooked.
My main problem, however, was the service. Some of the younger waiters were charming and efficient but I did find the older staff a bit too "cocky" and arrogant. The low point was when my friend asked for something on the menu to be translated - only to be forced to endure an excrutiating "game" as the Head Waiter told him to guess what he thought it was - each guess being dismissed with "No - try again". Such a exchange would perhaps be acceptable in TGI Fridays, but surely in a restaurant of this quality, if a customer requests additional information about an item on the menu, it should be provided without a charade.
Overall we had a good lunch. Would I return ? Possibly, although only with friends. I would be reluctant to use it for business as I would be too concerned about the quality of the service to relax.

I would like to correct all the unfair critics on "la poule au pot" I went there two weeks ago with my girlfriend , it was simply the best french restaurant i ever tried ! The food was great , so tasty , i recommand the oignon soup to everybody !
And im sorry but the service very good , checking all the tiem taht evrything is ok .
Iam french and i can easily say that its one of the best quality i had sinec a long time. Furthemore this place is always crowded ! you have to book a table if you want to try it ! so if it s not the sign of a good restaurant i dont know what it is !
I hope you will go to make your own opinion
Sur ce , un bon weekend a vous

The food was tasty and quite well executed. But the service really lets this place down. I find the cockiness and "I'll get round to serving you when I'm ready" attitude of the waiters very irritating. You could get away with that in Paris fifteen years ago but not today in London - so don't do it. And the decor made me feel I was in a themed restaurant - all french provincial tat and faux antiques. From the comments, a lot of you like this but, at this price, I prefer a more grown up dining experience.
