Do not go to Rhodes 24. It is a waste of money, space and time.

The place has a nice view, and that's about all i can say for it. I went there with my g/f for dinner on Friday. We arrived early, and sat down for a cocktail. When our two very expensive cocktails arrived, they not only didn't taste like they had any alcohol in them - in fact they were sickly sweet - but they came with no nuts/nibbles/olives. When you're paying £13 for a cocktail you expect these little side things. Nothing.

It would have been nowt more than a minor gripe had it not been for the rest of the evening that followed.

We were shown to our table, sat down, and waited about five minutes before being given any menus. We then had to wait another ten minutes before a waiter deigned to attend to us. And then i had to ask for the wine list. this was all basic poor service that you shouldn't get when you're paying £100 a head.

Then the food. Oh dear. the starter was, in fairness, quite nice - scallop ravioli. However, the main, a trio of pork, took ages to come and was dull, dull, dull. barely any flavour, boring boiled carrot on the side, soft crackling on the belly, no seasoning on the loin...it was just rubbish. The dessert was rather better, a trio of sticky toffee pudding, a homemade jaffa cake and a new take on bread and butter pudding. but by then it was too late. Poor service, distinctly average food and a huge price tag weren't outweighed by a nice enough view.

If you want a good meal and a great view, go to Paramount. Forget Rhodes 24 - it's dull food, with dull decor, poor service, and a hefty price tag that only local city tosspots should really be paying, and that's more because i like the idea of them being massively overcharged than because the experience is worth it. Avoid.

just a wonderful experience

I went at Rhodes24 on mid July 2010 with my wife and have the full course menu (5 plates for 70 GBP) and it wwas a remarquable experience.

The entree - a pea soup - was the only things I did not like, but all the rest was superb.

the combination and mix of food was incredible: truffle with eggs or, in another plate, small mushroom with fish (it was halibut if I remember well).

and at the and a marvellous sweet cake with chocolate and caramel.

the service was always excellent.

about the view, I suggest to ask for a little tour (and maybe a glass of champagne) on the top tower where you can see st.paul, millenium dome and the rest of London.

sorry for mistakes but I am Italian.

I wanted to book here to propose to my girlfriend then a private dining area or my engagement party.

The customer service is so poor that I could not even make a booking.

Called up Altitude 360 - they accomodated everything for my day including a private table for the proposal - in my view forget about Rhodes24 - too many stuck up staff...

Rhodes 24. (24th floor of Tower 42) in Old Broad street City of London. Great views and very nice staff. A small complimentary soup and rolls were offered which was nice. (an Amuze Bouche). Make sure you eat the rolls because the one thing you can guarantee after the meal is that, you will be hungry. For its location and the staff I would highly recommend this restaurant .However, I'm not sure how much longer 'Nouvelle cuisine' will be accepted by the paying public. It's not right to find yourself looking for a Macdonalds when you leave.

Vertigo on the 42nd floor only serves wine or Champagne. Arrange a 2nd mortgage first ! £9.80 is the least expensive small glass of wine and the staff up there aren't quite so friendly. Surly at best. An experience but not worth repeating.

Food excellent. Wine Excellent. Service Excellent.

Three of us went to dinner there last night. It's not cheap, but I've paid more for a lot worse. The standards were really good, the level of attention from the serving staff was just right, and their recommendations were all well received.

it is a real romantic restaurant but the price of the food is not so good as the taste is. your wine is great though.

Fantastic views and ambience, great service but the food was very average and even bland. Our bill for 4 was almost £400 this included 2 bottles of wine and 4 cocktails. We all agreed that it is a great place but the food was disappointing.

My boyfriend and I went here for our first 'official' dinner as a couple, and we had a lovely time. We had nice cocktails on the adjoining bar before were seated at a table by a window. The food was delicious, my scallop starter was perfect, and the amuse bouche of pea soup was extremely yummy. The petit fours were also a nice touch.

The sommelier was pretty good; the bottle of vintage Bollinger that he opened was 'off', so he opened another which tasted amazing. He allowed us to sample the corked champagne as a comparison.

In all, it was a special dinner in a special place! I would definitely come back.

We picked Rhodes 24 for the nice views, but the friendly service, the complimentary soup & sweets, and the creative menu made my daughter’s 21st bday such a special evening.... we all had great and happy time... thank you so much. We, definitely, will come back.....

Rhodes 24 is certainly a popular place for a business lunch, and you can see why. Fantastic views, prompt (but otherwise unremarkable) service, and excellent food from an à la carte menu. And in fact it isn't purely the preserve of the suits; there were several social diners in evidence when I was there.

The dishes are relatively simple, but are perfectly prepared allowing the quality of the ingredients to come through. For my main, the game toast, beetroot and wild mushrooms showed off the venison to best advantage. The iced tangerine mousse dessert had the right level of tartness set off by the sweet, tiny chocolate doughnuts. However, the starter of crab ravioli wasn't really helped by the foamy coral cream sauce.

So it wasn't as traditionally British as I expected, and all the more enjoyable for that. If you're not sure about three courses, then skip the starter and save room for dessert. And make sure somebody else is paying!
