This place has never let me down. great fun and really cosy in the winter. Tiny restaurant and you are well advised to book well ahead. The atmosphere is warming with little wooden tables and candles everywhere. The wine list is great. and the food is modern british, if you are grown up enough to like dishes like grouse, duck and pigeon then this is the place. Its definitely for a certain type of person though, if you view conran restaurants as being romantic or good quality then this place is probably beyond you. Its for old school, authentic food lovers! Very well priced too. Roughly £30-40 per head with wine. Enjoy!

Just back. Mmmm.... My sixth time over a period of about 12 years or so. It was an anniversary meal, and slightly irritating to be near the door with about 30 people with bags and back packs coming in and being refused tables. You need to book! Yes, even mid week. A freak table may be available, but BOOK BOOK BOOK! The owner (?) is great, but his one waitress was very forgetful. Asked for water, etc and I could then see her standing by the bar area chatting and staring into space.
The haddock risotto was almost scrambled eggy and wonderous comfort food on a cold night. The duck was also good. Pumpkin and chestnut soup was warming and a bit spicey.
The food can still do it, and candles are very forgivable, but this kind of thing is done much quicker and much cheaper in France, Italy, Spain - need I go on?

I can't possibly begin to understand how the experience we enjoyed last night could ever commute into a "1" rating.
Yes, we had to leave our table at 8; yes, it is cosy/small; yes, the it can appear as if the staff are a little abrupt. However, none of that had any impact at all on a delightful evening.
The food was gorgeous and imaginitive. Smoked eel followed by a beautiful well hung grouse and dressed crab followed by a juicy, fat sea bass. The young waiter knew his wine and recommended a superbly priced half bottle of Gigondas for me to have with the Grouse and then a stunning dessert wine (Quarts de Chaume),when we had selected a Monbazillac, to have with our chocolate mousse. They even found room for us on a pavement table to pass away the rest of the evening despite us being moved from our original spot just after 8.
I reckon you have to take a look at cause and effect. When a small, very personal restaurant in Soho offers food and wine of such quality you have to forgive the fact that sittings are short and its cramped and you can't always get a table and balance that against the fact that most of us would rather enjoy something unique and different, especially when the food and wine is this good.
Andrew Edmunds is a class act. Don't let anyone tell you differently!
And another thing,; being polite to the staff precipitated the most charming and polite response. Funny old thing!

My boyfriend and I had dinner here on Saturday evening and found the service, food, ambiance and value for money exceptional.
The restaurant is compact and was very busy - not an empty table- yet still retained a degree of intimacy. The service was just the right balance of attentive yest relaxed. We didn't feel rushed or fussed over. With reference to the previous review - I actually quite like to take to opportunity to pour my own wine. All too often at more exclusive venues the service can be a little too "attentive" and before you know it you've necked a bottle on plonc before the main course has arrived! (By the way, the wine list is very good, something to suit all tastes)
I will definitely be returning and have no hesitation in recommending Andrew Edmunds. The empasis is definitely on the food and everything else is just the right side of "relaxed"

My partnet and I went to Andrew Edmunds this weekend for our anniversary. We hadn't known about the restuarant's romantic reputation but had walked past it before and thought it looked cosy and that the menu appealed. Our experience was completely different from some of the other recent reviewers. Sure, the cloths are paper and the cultery is cheap but that's all part of the style and who cares when the food's so tasty? Our waitress was a little rushed with the number of table she was covering but was charming about it and we weren't in a hurry so, again, who cares when you're settled in for the evening? We had three different courses each and enjoyed all six of them, especially the sticky toffee pudding. We've been raving to our friends about the place and will certainly be going back, - and sooner than our next anniversary, for sure.

What can I say....very disappointed! I heard the service and food had gone down hill in the last year but I thought I would still give it a try. Apart from decor and lighting, there wasn't a single part of this restaurant experience I enjoyed. The menu was limited, over-priced and average. The service was very poor verging on rude! Our desserts were thrown on the table, the wine left to pour ourselves and a 30 minute wait to even have our order taken. Think twice!

I'm afraid I don't understand the reputation this place has as a 'romantic' restaurant. There is nothing romantic about it whatever, and I was very disappointed that the overall experience did not reflect the £40 a head bill for lunch. Okay, so the food is well cooked, and they obviously care about their ingredients, but they do value themselves a bit too highly. You can get lunch or dinner of equal calibre for quite a lot less these days in London, (and in other British towns and cities for that matter), and you won't end up with picnic catering glasses and ironware, hard seats and cheap paper tablecloths in a colourless cramped room with little ambience. I realise that these things are not integral to good gastronomy, but I chose this place for a special (okay, romantic) occasion with my partner, based on both its professional categorisation and reader recommendations. Where have these people all been? 'Romantic' it ain't...

I visited Andrew Edmunds for the first time last night on the recommendation of a friend (who admitted afterwards she had not eaten there for over a year!!).... and I have to say that I had a fantastic evening.
The service was a little slow but nonetheless adequate. However, the food really sparkled..... and at the end of the day that is what I went to the restaurant to do.... EAT... not have a fancy ice bucket with my wine etc (see below).
I'll definitely be returning to Andrew Edmunds in the near future, recommending it to all my friends, and hopeful that more people are offended by the lack of icebuckets so that I can get a table whenever I want!!

I visited here last Monday and had a fabulous meal with a friend. I think it was the day after the previous reviewer visited, because we also had the pigeon (very nice) and the duck as a main. The service was casual but prompt, and the food was delicious as always. I don't know why this place has started getting bad reviews recently because it's as good as it ever was. Maybe there was a rogue waiter working there for a few weeks. Either way, it's still one of the best in London for a romantic meal, although make sure you get an upstairs table and book in advance.
