I went to Catch last week for the first time to check it out and i have to say i was pleased with everything. It was a little bit pricey, but given the fact that the music was good, the food superb, fantastic selection of red wines and the service first class i thought it was good value for money. I googled the name of the restaurant today to get the contact details so that i could book a table for this evening and i came across this site so i thought i'd share my experience with you.

We took advantage of the restaurant week special of 2 courses for £15, and found the menu excellent. The portion sizes were good and all the food was well presented and very tasty. The staff were friendly and helpful. We chose to have a bottle of wine as well, and the sommelier (who sounded and looked (slightly) like Olivier Martinez) was helpful in guiding us to a nice wine. Also it didn't cost the earth £26, which I think is a good price for a restaurant of this calibre. Maybe we couldn't afford to eat there at normal prices, but we would definitely go back for a special deal.

Wednesday, March 24, 2010 - We also ordered pickled crab with rillettes. Interesting stuff, large chunks of fresh crab compressed to a sort of tower form and seemingly soaked in a wasabi infused soya sauce. I tasted the sweetness of mirin, the moment it hit my palate...Finally then on to the main event: Roast Monkfish with potted shrimp, curly kale. The texture was chewy, as opposed to a springy bounce. I enjoyed the intriguing choice of garnish, lemon flavoured raisins, pine nuts and deeply seasoned potted shrimp. Curly kale is a good match to white fish, it has wonderful texture, with a tinge of bitterness.
