Feng Sushi (Borough Market)

Feng Sushi is rather disappointing.
We paid £50 for two , even though we didn't have much food (and only two beers). I don't mind to pay a bit more if the food is good, but at this place, the food is variable at best. The miso soup was good (though rather expensive, at almost £5), and so was the sashimi, but the California hand roll was poor - the seaweed paper was not crispy at all, and the 'chilli edamame beans' (again, rather expensive at almost £5) were very disappointing, too. The beans were drowned in lots of cheap sweet chilli sauce, not what we expected, and not suitable.
The service was not terrible attentive, and when we complained about some of the food, the waiter didn't really seem to care.
On top of it, this place has the atmosphere of a student refectory - that's OK when the meals are cheap, but this place most certainly isn't. Other Japanese places in London charge only half as much for basics such as edamame beans or miso soup .
Overall, we were very disappointed indeed, and we most certainly will never go to Feng Sushi again. There are many other Japanese places in London with are better (and cheaper, and more atmospheric, with better service).

I was pleased to find somewhere around Borough Market where our group of four could sit and chat over a leisurely meal on a Friday night - there was plenty of space available. And the sparely decorated space is pleasant enough to be in.
But I'd agree with other reviewers that the food and service are both hit-and-miss. The hot dishes - tofu pancake and suchlike - were light and flavourful, but definitely insubstantial. We topped up with sushi that was fairly bland. Service was definitely unsmiling, but adequate. Bill for four, including a bottle of wine and tip, was £90.
Not worth a special trip to eat there, but a useful alternative to the crowded drinking holes that dominate the area.

I'm sorry Miroki but I don't believe that you are a client. All the above reviews were spot on.
This place is an expensive joke. The staff absolutely don't care in any way, shape or form about their customers.
We had to ask 3 times for our edamame beans eventually turning 45 mins later.
I had rice noodles and prawns which were so over cooked I thought of renaming the dish Wrigleys Special. Disgusting overcooked frozen prawns. When I complained to the waitress she laughed and said "you're kidding".
The portions have shrunk to such a size that they're transparent and tiny while the prices have increased.
Totally disgusted as this was my meal out for the month!!!

Having eaten in the South Bank restaurant a while back, and found the sushi to be decent, we thought we'd try online delivery from the Borough branch this weekend.
Thirty seconds after placing the order we were telephoned by the restaurant, who told us there would be a one hour wait, and did we want to cancel our order?
After brief discussion we decided this wasn't too long on a Saturday, so we left the order in place. After an hour and a half, we phoned to ask what had happened, and they promised to contact the driver for an update. No apology was offered
After an hour and fifty minutes, as we were about to cancel the order, it arrived. By this time we were too famished to send the food away again. No apology was forthcoming from the driver, and the restaurant never called back to apologise.
The food isn't bad, but they really don't care about their delivery customers.

I bought a takeaway meal of sushi (with a seaweed salad) at Feng Sushi in Borough restaurant and was thoroughly disappointed by both food and service. I ordered some eel nigiri, salmon and yuzu nigiri, mackerel nigiri with shiso, yellowtail nigiri and tuna and avocado and salmon skin rolls, as well as a seaweed salad. The woman who took my order was far more interested in chatting to her friend and tucking into her sushi (which looked far more appetising than the sushi I discovered in my box on my return home) than she was in helping me.
When I got home, it turned out that the mackerel nigiri was minus the advertised shiso and sesame, the salmon and yuzu nigiri I had ordered was just plain salmon (despite having circled the order on the menu so that there could be no mistake, AND having read my order out. The portion size of the nigiri I had been served was far smaller than the portion the waitress had been tucking into, which proved to be a good thing because the rice was stale and claggy, the tuna and avocado rolls actually had the stem of the avocado in one of the rolls, and the yellowtail smelled awful so I threw it out. The dressing that came with the salad didn’t even reach the depth of a centimetre in the small container that was packed into the box, and the wasabi and pickled ginger was of the cheapest possible quality, similar to the level served at fast food outlets selling cheap pre-prepared sushi.
For the money I spent I expected something of far higher quality than the food I was served. It is clear that prices at Feng Sushi have risen while standards have slipped by a very large margin. I phoned up to complain and was told that my complaint would be looked into and someone would get back to me shortly. I also emailed Feng Sushi's head office to let them know of my complaint. That was three days ago and I've heard nothing. I won't be going back there and strongly suggest that anyone reading this review avoids the place too.
