Feng Sushi (City)

An excellent Japanese take away and quick bit to eat place! But Beware of the Fulham Road Manager! He calls customers rude if you ask him questions and queries your tone!! apology is out of the question and threatens to discuss you as a customer with his manager!! what a laugh but you don't want that! The owner is not interested in speaking with the customer, as he says .... One man rules the joint and spoils it really! Bad attitude.

I've been going to this restaurant less and less because the quality of the food has been going down considerably, and to tell the truth the only reason i've been there recently is because it's very close and I haven't been bothered to travel into the city for real sushi.
I've always been disappointed with the food. I can only imagine anyone who thinks it is good is probably someone who buys 'sushi' from supermarkets.
The rice in all the dishes is just plain wrong! It reminds me of the food in YO Sushi, most of which is pre-rolled and kept in the fridge in cling film.
In relation to the price it is robbery!
So to sum up...
Rice too thick around the rolls.
Rice tastes like it has been kept in the fridge
Amount of actual fish in the rolls is way too small
Sashimi too expensive.
Avacado hard on many occasions.
Take the 25 pounds you would have spent here and go to a real sushi bar in the west end and still have money to spare for a drink or 2.

I was a wee bit worried going to this place after reading the reviews, but honestly I was quite impressed. The service was lightening fast (less than 10 minutes) and the food was quite lovely, considering the majority of staff were not Asian. The sushiw as served in the proper traditional manner and I was even surprised by a wee serving of Peking duck.
I can't compare this meal to many other UK sushi places, but for a person who's eaten sushi from the country of origin, this place gives it a really good shot!

I went the other night with a girl friend and while we and a good natter and a nice spot to sit, the food was not great. I guess you get what you pay for here. If you do want cheap sushi in an interesting location this is a good bet. But the food is not great for a sushi joint. You can get better take outs for lunch.
Main grumbles:
- Eel role was probably the worst I've had - chewy and too much rice
- Wine - choice of red and white (we had the white - if you are only going to have two choices at least make them the standard of a £5+ bottle from the supermarket - the white was pretty nasty)
- Other roles were fairly tastless
- Cant stand squeezing out your wasabi from packets...why should you do this in a restaurant?
It's a shame, great location, disappointing food.

I took a friend here for dinner early on Friday night (6.30ish) and had high expectations from reviews. We were seated quickly and ordered Green Teas, Edamame, Miso Soup, a shared platter of Sushi and Inside Out Spicy Tuna Maki.
Service wasn't terrible, but it wasn't the best I've had (waitresses seemed half asleep, maybe because it was early evening... still, it was reflected in the size of the tip).
Food was excellent, the fish was fresh, at the right temperature, and nicely cut (not the thin slivers of cheap tat you get at the carosel places). We picked just enough to ensure that both of us were well fed without overdoing it, and at £30 for two the bill was acceptable.
Other diners were also overheard making complimentary comments about their dishes - I'd go back, and I'd recommend it to friends.

I have been ordering from Feng for a number of years and to be honest I have never had a bad meal. The fish is probably the freshest I have tasted in London.I am at present on a low-carb diet so there are not that many places that `i can eat out both healthily and cheaply but Feng does this for me on both counts. The salmon sashimi is particularly good and I find they do the simple things very well.
On my most recent visit I ordered off the summer specials menu. The seabass was a special treat.
I have enjoyed many a pleasant evening at Feng Sushi. The staff are friendly and efficient which is all I want. The food is more than satisfactory.OK the wine list is not that comprehensive, but if you are fortunate to be served by one of the Japanese staff they are happy enough to give a few tips on selecting the best sake.

What a letdown. A friend had warned me it was disappointing but the menu looked so good I couldn't resist. Oh dear. The edamame was overcooked and mushy, how can you mess up edamame?! The tempura, as another review here mentions, was awful: many of the vegetables were still almost raw, and the batter is chunky instead of delicate as a good tempura batter should be and tasted suspiciously like an unclean fryer to me- my boyfriend thought i was having a whinge but when he had bad indigestion by the time we got home he was not impressed either! The sauce for the tempura wasn't even tempura dip, but tasted suspiciously like tamari. The rice was my biggest beef, it was gluey and mashed tight like plasticene. The handroll was the biggest disappointment, the worse handroll I've ever had, no added special ingredients and way to much of that glue I mean rice! The maki and nigiri were so incredibly skimpy on the fish front, could that salmon slice get any thinner? For the price I was stunned- for almost the same price I could have crossed the bridge and gone to Megen. I should have known better, Megen is full of Japanese clients and Feng sushi has none. Then again Feng isn't even Japanese. From what others around me had, I suspect their Asian fusion is where they excel so stay away from the Japanese and order noodles or the crispy fried duck- yes, this is actually on the menu- first time I've seen that at a Japanese restaurant! I guess that says it all. Oh and one more thing (now I'm having a rant!) like someone else mentions we waited a long time for service, and all the waiters were so glum looking as it was. The only good thing was the Japanese pickles, the real traditional pickles and a generous portion for the price.

I had been here a few times as it is the only 'sushi' place near London Bridge! I usuauly get take away sushi although yesterday night I ate in. It is a bit cramp and uncomfortable sitting on the high stools and the toilet is refurbishing downstair. They were actually playing Hindi music as well... very, very strange combination.
The food: we ordered a mixture of food and the quality is a mixed one!
Fish/squid tempura was excellent
vegetable tempura was a MIXED one- some excellent other obviously undercooked. I had eaten in so many Japanese places (mostly aboard) and it is not suppose to be like this
the tempura dip... The first one was excellent, the second one was way too salty so I asked the staff for another one and they prompty gave me a fresh one which taste the same. They explained it's a new batch... But it is way too salty and not light enough to counter the oily tempura.
The sushi as usual is excellent- although salmon fish egg was not fresh.
Portion was fine for me but not my husband :)
sashmi was fantastic!
Overall- a good place for some sushi and sashmi (others are too 'twsit' for new style). May be a place for lighter eater and those looking for more western japanese food. Although 100% better than M and S and Boot's 'sushi'!

I've been to Feng Sushi a couple of times - it's wonderful on a warm evening as you feel like you're spilling out onto Stoney Street along with the drinkers at the nearby pubs.
The atmosphere and decor are excellent and the service is fine - although it's certainly not good and I can see where a couple of the more negative reviews came from.
The sushi is very good too, although the maki can be a little dry. The bento boxes are excellent value although the selections are a bit odd and could do with being changed around a little.
If you want better sushi at better prices head to Pham Sushi near Old Street but if you are out with a few friends on a Friday evening then this is a great place to be, especially when it's warm outside and they don't have to bring the rather oppressive shutters down.
