I didn't have a high expectation before venturing in, as I do for most restaurants in London, but I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the 'sushi'. It is always a good sign when there are plenty of natives eating there - Londoner's take note. I would agree with the other reviews that the interior could do with an update but it was pleasantly clean and service efficient like the Japanese metro - unlike the London tube.

They serve decent sushi. Believe me, I'm a Japanese...
I guess Mitsukoshi sacrifice its option in order to maintain the standard of fish or any other ingredients.
Ok, the decor isn't swanky - it's more like bland hotel reception you'd expect to see on package holidays, and yes, they play same classic CD over and over again, but that's the Japanese modernity for you. lol
The main problem I have with majority of so-called Japanese restaurants in London is the consistency of rice. If the rice is cooked in exactly the same manner as it would be in Japan, it's guaranteed to be undercooked due to the hardness of the water in the UK and I don't think it's worth spending money if the restaurant can't get even the most fundamental element of Japanese taste. I'm fed up with undercooked rice - tastes like rubber - that often served in Japanese restaurants in London; annoyingly they can get away with it because no-one really knows how it should tastes like...!
Mitsukoshi seems to be aware of this problem and their sushi tested just like you'd expect in any decent sushi restaurant in Japan, if not good one.
I had Special Nigiri Sushi - £23.00 and Tempura assort - £12.00, and were all tasted like genuine Japanese food.
If you want romantic atmosphere, book a private room like Tom Friday Feb 17 2006 did.
