I visited the Notting Grill on Friday night 27th April 2007.

Having flown in from Ireland after a long day I was looking forward to a good meal in nice surroundings. I am please top advise that I was not disappointed. Myself and my 10 yr old son arrived at 8pm and were greeted by a very friendly Maitre'D and promptly taken to our seats. The staff were extremely courteous to both of us and made us very welcome. My son had the childs portion of the Bacon/Cheeseburger which he complimented highly and polished off in double quick time. I had the pan-fried prawn starter, delicious, followed by the sublime 24oz Ribeye. A major challenge to eat but WOW what a steak, tender, juicy and full of flavour. We had an excellent evening and were well looked after. Congrats to all at the Grill

My Husband and i decided to book a weekend break in London and eat at AWT's Notting Grill we had booked this table 4 weeks in advance but didn't need to bother it was empty. We were shown up to the terrace outside because it was a nice evening, that would have been great apart from fag ends all over the floor and around the table straight away i was put off. We were shown to our table at 7.30 and was not even asked what we wanted to eat until 8.15pm. When the waiter did come over and i told him what i wanted to order he decided he would try and pick the menu for us by trying to get us to have something else.

When the food arrived about 40mins later i have to say it was good . I think overall the problem is with the service not the food. keeping up with the cleaning on the terrace would be a good idea.

I was utterly unimpressed with this place. The service was appalling, slow, ill mannered staff who seemed only interested in attending to the private party. The steak I ordered was fatty with only a mouth full of decent meat. They had also run out of dessert excpet for a frozen lump of chocolate. If you want a decent meal with excellent service go to Sophie's steakhouse! Do not go to Notting Grill!!

On reading last week all the negative comments from other diners, we nervously went along to Notting Grill last Saturday (10th Mar).

Thank God all the comments were wrong!!!

We had a fantastic evening, with waiters and Maitre'd who couldnt be more attentive - food that was cooked to perfection, and surroundings that were comfortable and friendly.

The diners seated around us also seemed to be enjoying the food and atmosphere, and the friendly banter from the staff.

One other bonus was that the meal and wine was really reasonably priced, and helpings were generous.

I would recommend this restaurant to all my friends, and would end by saying, thank God I didnt listen to customers bad reviews, since I would have missed out on a great evening.

OK. Service was absolutely appalling. Some pi**ed up French dude (supposedly the Maitre'd) ignored us for about an hour and then refused to let us choose what side orders we actually wanted. When my food arrived, I had steak, it had been cooked well-done when I wanted it rare. Sent it back and it rocked up about 4 hours later, whilst the rest of my party were mulling over the puddings. There was also a waiter who appeared to be mute who was amazingly more useless than the drunk Gallic. Avoid.

So it's a neighbourhood steak house in a neighbourhood where high prices for very local standards can be tolerated.

Which means they don't try particularly hard and it's only mediocre at best. Steaks ordered rare (on waiter's recommendation) were blue and sent back to be cooked, one steak was sent back uneaten as there simply wasn't much steak between the connective tissue, another went back uneaten because after the 45 minute wait for starters, there was a further hour wait for the main courses and someone was simply too drunk to eat by then... Side orders were good but a little mean in size on the vegetables. Deserts nothing special (creme brulee pretty much liquid urg).

what really stood out however was the service - the ill mannered, slow, rude service. Agree with whoever before noted the total indifference of the Maitre d', and would add to that insouciance and a total absence of the idea of service on the part of the waiting staff.

wouldn't bother (unless you're very local and very hungry).

Lovely friendly atmosphere.

Only criticism I would have is smoking at the bar area. As my husband and I were sitting on the first table down stairs, and customers were smoking at the bar this was extremely unpleasant for us, as neither of us smoke.

In addition, I ordered Lobster which unfortunately the chief decided was not fit for consumption and left me a little disappointed as I was extremely eager to try your Lobster, I therefore decided on prawns which were extremely pleasing.

A very nice afternoon had by both my husband any myself, even with the little niggles.

Thank you

I was thoroughly unimpressed, in fact I did not even get to eat. I waited about 15 minutes, standing like a lemon. No one would attend to us and when the Manager/Maitre d' arrived he seemed utterly indifferent. We walked out!

Four of us went to this restaurant on Sat. Nov 11. Had a booking for 9pm, arrived at 9.05 and waited at the bar until 9.30 or so for our table. The place was really smoky but looked nice and inviting enough. Had to ask for a new napkin as mine was wet and stank of vinegar (at least we all hoped that was what it was!) Waited another 10 min to place our order. First course took a long time, but it was nice and worth waiting for; however, we waited over an HOUR and 15 minutes for our second course!! After the first 45 min, we were told we had not been forgotten and that we would be the next table to be served, this only happened half an hour later and all meat dishes had been over cooked. I had asked for a hamburger and found that the meat tasted funny, my friends agreed and I contented myself with the chips. We did get a free bottle of wine, only after having complained about the poor service, and left shortly thereafter without even daring to ask for dessert or coffee and facing another hour wait! I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone, it is over priced, disorganised and the food is not always good.

When I go to a restaurant and spend £100 for two people I expect to walk away happy and fulfilled - unfortunately this was not the case on Sunday.

We arrived at the restaurant at 1830 for an early dinner and a bottle of wine. We ordered Bread/Olives, starters and main course.

We waited a good time then the starters arrived before the bread and olives and I was not very impressed by my deep-fried courgette flowers, a bit greasy unfortunately. My partner's steak tartar was ok, but would have preferred not having all ingredients pre-mixed. Then the limp crusted bread arrived and a few paltry green olives, before our main meal. I had ordered my Lamp chop rare, but was rather medium/well done. I was not asked if I liked mash or chips or something on the side so when the plate arrived with just meat, some mushrooms and bit of salad for decorating I had to ask for some additional mash. My partner had a steak and wanted it medium but also this one was also somewhat over cooked. He also asked for additional béarnaise that never arrived. The wine was good (even though we were brought the one for the one other table originally.

The funny thing was that the staff really was friendly and didn't give us any attitude. We couldn't figure it out. They just seemed "not with it" somehow. There were only 2 tables dining which we originally felt was due to our early arrival, but on reflection we gather there is another reason.
