We thought that we should go to Sophie's Steakhouse to eat since it had recieved such good reviews but I was hugeley dissapointed. We ordered our food and the waitress we had was smiley and polite. However, when the starters came the dissapointment began. We ordered the calamari and it was over cooked and dry, the dip it came with was bland. The rump steak I had was overcooked as well. Rump is a very thin piece of meat and I ordered it to be cooked through, not cooked dry and tough. The french beans side was barely cooked. The atmospere was probably the best thing in the restaurant. I was expecting maybe a £60-£80 bill. It came at a costly £110. Considering the fact that the food was less than mediocre I was dissapointed. Will not be recommending or revisiting.

Whilst enjoying a day trip to London yesterday we decided to eat at Sophies Steakhouse. We felt we had to leave a review as it was one of the nicest meals we have had.

We decided to have the lunch time express menu (three courses). Although the restaurant was busy we were seated straight away and ordered a bottle of red wine to go with our meal. My husband had a starter of sardines and I had the soup of the day. It did take a little while for the food to be served, but as we were in no rush, this was not a problem and it was worth the wait.

For our main course we both had the ribeye steak which was delicious and for afters I had the Eton mess and my husband had the cheesecake - again this was lovely.

The atmosphere in the restaurant is welcoming with a mix of tourists and workers on their lunch breaks.

We do not go to London very often but the next time we go, we will definitely make at stop at this restaurant. A definite 10 out of 10.

Value for money was fab - three courses each and a bottle of house red and the bill came to £47.00.

I recently visited Sophie's in Chelsea with some friends over from Sweden, couldn't book but decided to give it a go anyways. We had a bit of a wait in the bar but the cocktails were smashing and the manager, Brad, managed to get us a table within about 30mins. Great steaks all round especially the Cote de Bouef and the selection of wine was impressive and very affordable! Great crowd and our waitress was clearly busy but still managed to pack in a few laughs... Amazing value for money and all in all a great night!! Will be back soon!

Regularly go to the Fulham Road Sophie's for my pre cinema fix. The best chilli martini in town. Steak frites before 7pm is £9.95 - total bargain & hits the spot everytime. That's what I love about it. Staff are always bang on too.

After research on the web decided to try Sophie's Covent Garden during a weekend trip to London with my wife. Visited there on a Friday about 8pm and yes it was busy, what a surprise in Central London!!! We were told a 40 minute wait for a table so went to the bar and were seated for a meal within 30 minutes.

The food was excellent, beef carpaccio to start followed by sirloin for me and burger for my wife. The steak was perfectly cooked medium rare as was the burger and it all came at a good pace.

Liked it so much we went back on the Sunday about 8pm, no waiting for a table and the place was quieter and perhaps a better experience.

Again the food was excellent I couln't resist the 28oz porterhouse but I did resist chewing the bone when finished!!!

The wine I thought was reasonably priced given the location.

The staff on both visits were very good and found time to chat, even on the very busy Friday.

Would go again tomorrow but sadly can't - but I will on my next visit to London

I really fancied a steak, so my boyfriend researched a bit and decided that Sophie's Steakhouse looks good for a Friday night. We ended up waiting 30 minutes for a table, which was not too bad, as we were both looking forward to a decent meal. We were sat down at a fairly small table, where i ended up being pushed every time somebody would pass by, and that happend every 20 seconds or so. That didn't bother me too much, i was looking forward to my steak. We ordered medium rare ribeye steak, chips, onion rings and while rack of baby ribs. What we got was: chewy burnt steak, ribs that were probably cooked in the oven a week ago, heated in the microwave and then served, oily onion rings and some very anorexic chips. Needless to say we won't go back. We left the place wanting to go across the street and have a decent meal. That says a lot.

With regard to review below, I have to say that Sophie's Fulham Rd on a Friday night is prob not the wisest choice for a pregnant lady going on a romantic a-deux with her husband! Things can get a bit hectic, but in firm defence of the place (and I go there a LOT) the atmosphere is electric on those evenings, and once you're at your table, they never hassle you to move on, and you can stay and watch the world buzz past while eating consistently excellent steak (go for the ribeye -- marbled perfection every time). In the vast majority of cases, the time we've been given to wait has been accurate, and if the bar gets too rammed, there's always the pub on the corner or over the road for a swift one. IT WILL BE WORTH IT!!

04/10/10 Whilst staying in London for a couple of days last week to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Me and my husband made the appalling mistake of choosing to go to Sophie's Steakhouse in Chelsea for dinner on Friday evening.

We phoned them about 8:00pm and were told they don't accept bookings but if we arrived at 9:00pm we would be seated within 20 mins. We made our way there and arrived a minute or two before 9:00pm and were told it would be at least 45mins wait for a table, we decided we were there so we'd wait.

We waited 'stood up' at the bar (not great when 3 months pregnant) but no seating was available due to the large numbers of people in the bar area waiting for their tables.

Interestingly, waiting did give us ample opportunity to see that frankly the place appeared to be experiencing a sort of 'Gordon Ramsay style' meltdown. The staff were argumentative with each other and the diners. Several plates of food were returned to the kitchen (I overheard one staff member say there had been complaints of cold dishes and wrong dishes). A guy in a blue shirt (presumably the manager) appeared to be running around like a headless chicken. People were complaining left, right and centre about the delay in getting a table and then the delay in placing orders and receiving orders. Whilst we waited we saw tables being seated then waiting 20 mins to get a drink! Directly next to where we stood when we arrived a couple had just finished their starter, they finally got their main course about ten mins before we left and we waited for an hour and 15 mins before we gave up

All the while this was going on the woman on the door continued to let streams of people in with the same line 'Yes, we'll have a table for you in 45mins'. The volume of people in the bar area became so large you could barely move, it was a total nightmare!!!!!!

After waiting for an hour and 15mins pregnant, starving and really rather annoyed that the woman hadn't bothered to approach any of her waiting guests to keep us informed of waiting times. Then having just witnessed her greeting some good looking male guests in full Sloane style schmaltz and guiding them straight to the nearest available table I suggested to my husband that we leave quickly and quietly before I became violent. Hunger and pregnancy can do that to a girl!

As we left said woman stopped me on my way out to thank me for my custom at which point I could no longer contain myself and let rip. I explained that I felt that leaving a pregnant woman stood up for and hour and 15 mins was utterly appalling, mid rant one of her colleagues tapped her on the shoulder to ask her a question at which point she actually turned her back on me to conduct a conversation with her instead.

Needless to say we left abruptly and certainly have no plans to return again. If you want good customer service, decent food - in fact any food at all then I certainly wouldn't recommend Sophie's Steakhouse - more like Shithouse!

I occasionally look at previous postings that I've made previously here and enjoy the comments that follow. I last denigrated this restaurant in July 2010, having said that it used to be my favourite Restaurant in London for several years. When I say "My favourite", I'm not talking about the Haute Cuisine-I'm talking a local place that's fun, has ambience, and has decent food at an amenable price. Having promised after the last time (July) that I'd never return, I obviously did exactly that. I told a colleague that whilst the Steaks were of really dreadful quality and ridiculously overpriced, that we could try the Burgers. Surely Sophie's couldn't get them wrong? They did, and they continue to do so apparently.. Tiny little clumps of beef in nasty over cooked buns, the house wine now acidic-and guess what? 50 quid per head. that's because if you ask for bread you get charged-If you dare order vegetables you get charged heavily. This time I promise that I won't ever return. The staff remain very friendly and efficient-but I suspect that the gorgeous Sophie (who ran it perfectly in days gone by) has now moved on. It 's apparent.

Wednesday, March 04, 2009 - The ribeye was wonderful. The grilled slab of protein was charred to a perfect medium rare. The soft steak had good beefy flavour and I couldn’t help but coo with each bite and it’s companion smokiness. Really great stuff… I have a sneak suspicion that while everything else is ok on the menu, the real star are the steaks. My steakhouse of choice used to be Gaucho’s but Sophie’s is looking like a strong contender.
