My friends and I have become regular visitors to the Pizza Express Jazz Club after great recommendation from several people. The atmosphere is always great and staff are polite and accommodating. The Dean street branch did have a facelift a few years ago, thanks to a well informed website, michaelvalentinestudio.com, Iwas able to fully see what the club had to offer. I could see from several photographs and reviews that the stage was small, but it did highlight an intimacy which many clubs seem to have lost over the years. We will continue to sing the clubs praises. .

Saw Gilad Atzmon on sat 28th July.
Waitress service was good. They came to take our order really quickly & were very polite.
Only problem we were downstairs and it was far too hot - needed some air-conditioning!
Gilad was superb as ever & it was great to be be sitting so close to him & the band. There was a really good atmosphere - very intimate! And no smoke!!
Will certainly be back to see Gilad again as soon as he plays there next.

We took my stepdaughter to this restaurant for her eighteenth birthday. We asked for a larger-than-usual table because we'd have presents. They gave us a smaller table, but seemed happy to move us to a larger one, then asked us to move again when some regular customers came in and wanted that table, all before we'd really gotten our coats off. My stepdaughter asked to speak to the manager to tell him she was unhappy, and he accused her of being rude and began shouting at her. When I told him why we were leaving he began shouting at me and wouldn't let me ask for his name or complete a sentence. While most Pizza Express restaurants have been terrific, this was a horrible experience, and I couldn't let it pass by. Sure, go to Pizza Express, but don't waste your time on this one.

Went there on Friday night for dinner, it was full but we got a table quickly. The garlic bread arrived lukewarm and not crispy as usual. I complained to the waitress and she acted as if it was meant to be like that (i've been eating garlic bread at P.E. for 25 years). My main course was the wrong pizza and again, the waitress implied that i'd said the wrong thing rather than apologising gracefully. I then asked if the chocolate icecream bombe would be properly frozen (as the last time i ordered this at another branch it was more like a blamanche!). She said she couldn't guarantee it - even though the freezer was less than 20 yards away! - and was pretty rude. Hey presto, when it did come it was half melted and the manager was duly called. In contrast to the waitress, she was polite and accommodating and offered to take money off the bill and a free pizza next time. Shame it took the manager to sort out a long-standing customer.

The thing that has to be said about this restaurant is that it is architecturally superb. Being on the corner of Dean Street and Carlisle Street and having huge windows that go right up to the ceiling, it affords huge panoramic views of the Soho outside. It is probably at its best on a sunny day. It is this factor that keeps on sending me back.
As for the food I have been eating the same pizza there, a Fiorentina, since the early eighties. I earliest I can remember going there is in about 1982 and I can’t remember the last time I had anything different The staff changes but the food hasn't. Well, not much. I have to say that I still prefer the Pizza Express pizzas to those at Strada although the latter are probably larger and more authentic.
For the last ten years or so I have been taking my camera with me and I have produced six paintings of the interior which can be seen on my website, www.guylegge.com, in gallery 6.
