Many people had recommended this restaurant to my brother so we decided to try this place with our partners. As design afficionados we loved the interior. It's design was spot on. Attention to detail is most definitely paid.

The four of us ordered tea to start off with. We then ordered a selection of starters including garlic shoots which was highly reccommended by friends. This is not usually available in the menu but is generally included in set meals but the young waiter had no problem by customising our order which we thought was excellent. We were blown away by the garlic shoots, awesome dish.

We also ordered soft shell crab tempura also very nicely cooked followed by chicken skewered meat, teriyaki cod and a tofu dish. These were all excellent dishes although we all found the tofu dish a little bland.

We were kindly advised by the owners wife to place our sushi and sashimi order at the same time as we ordered our starters as the restaurant was full an to avoid any delay. So we ordered mixed sashimi and a California sushi roll. We also topped up the order with a beef teriyaki dish.

The sushi was so fresh and melted like butter in our mouths and the sushi was a nice big size with wasabi included inside. We were all very impressed with the high standard of food. The food came at the right pace and we never felt rushed or delayed. The restaurant was totally full at this point and te restaurant ticked over so smoothly and effortlessly.

We finished off our order with their famous home made ice cream. We ordered four balls; green tea, chestnut, coffee and red bean. Amazing tastes and not over sweet. Coffee was exceptional.

We definitely recommend this family run hospitable restaurant to anyone. We had not one bad experience and we are regular restaurant goers and foodies who are fussy choosy and very picky. So thumbs up from us.

Price wise it is not bad. Including alcohol it came to £35 a head. Next time we will probably go for set meal.

West end prices but far from west end quality.

Pokey, noisy room. Staff barely speak English and don't really know what they're doing.

Fried squid starter was horribly over-cooked in stale oil which made it incredibly rubbery, greasy and unpleasant. Tempura was the same.

Poorly cut sashimi - tough connective tissue in the tuna made it inedible.

Menu has the usual Japanese staples (nigiri, sashimi, yakatori, udon etc) but nothing out of the ordinary.

Unless you live in Willesden and this is local, it's definitely not worth a journey.

Taste is very traditional-Japnanese-style.Price is cheaper than other Japanese-Restaurant in London especially central-London. So I think Susi say has a nice- balance for price and taste. I highly recommend you because very resonable...

The problem is as below.

1. Sushi-shef is the only one guy (=Must be Restaurant owner...) Whenever be crowded, Serving-food is so delay.

2. Waiter and Waitress- Unfortunately, Most of them are not well-trained. (=Temporary worker only excluding Restrant-owner's wife...)

So, The best way to enjoy Sushi-say is going ealier than other customer. Lunch-Time is best for you to go Sushi-Say at 12:00. And Dinner-Time is 18:30 or 19:00. Of course,You have to book counter-area beforehand.

As a former resident of Japan, this is one of the best Japanese restaurants I've been to in the UK and almost certainly the most authentic. Completely disagree with the comment about poor service. The owner is always perfectly delightful when I go - and I go very often

How strange someone found the service poor. We go there regularly and service is second to none. The quality of the food is excellent and we have found the whole experience faultless. Guess you can't please everyone!

Very disappointed with the service. Rather unfortunate. As suggested by other reviews, I will not question the level of food they offer. However, I would like to point out that the service level is sub-standard and I have never encountered such a rude service in my foodie career.

We visited the restaurant other day and one of the order did not come for a long time. The waiter was apologetic, but a moment later a very abrasive floor manager who is wearing Kimono started to argue in very unpleasant way.

The attitude of the manager is unacceptable for the price you have to pay. Frankly speaking there are equivalent Sushi restaurant in the central London at similar price range and enjoy respectable service.

It seems that the prices are propped up to pay for the decor. Yes the location is superb and an out of this world experience but then you are hit with the bill and you want to cry because the problem with japanese restaurants in London is that they are all overpriced selling a piece of the most basic salmon sushi five or six times over what it would be in japan and no one really eats salmon sushi in Japan. Lovely counter and authentic Japanese chefs prepare lovely offers that are not available at many other places but you get the feeling these are snobbish Kanto salarymen catering for other snobbish Kanto salarymen that are generally despised in the rest of Japan for being unfriendly, cold and showy in taste. You could argue that the staff are kind in showing us how to eat but it could also be described as patronising.

what the bloggers say

Cheese and Biscuits

Cheese and Biscuits - 4/10

Tuesday, May 26, 2009 - It looks like the perfect setting for a very authentic sushi experience, which is a shame because after ten minutes I was just on the verge of walking out… From that point on, if the food had been a 3 Michelin-star tour-de-force of Japanese regional cookery it still would have tasted of defeat. To try and be objective for a second, it probably wasn't too bad. The soft-shelled crab tempura were moist and cooked with skill, the squid well seasoned and the Uni nigiri were, if not very fresh, then at least unusual enough to be noteworthy.

Pig Pig's Corner

Pig Pig's Corner

Monday, May 11, 2009 - The food was near faultless, and the freshness of the seafood is undeniable, but we sampled too little of the menu to be able to make a true judgement of the chef’s abilities. Although the restaurant was full by the time we left, service was still quick and with a smile. Lack of Japanese customers at the time made it feel a bit non-traditional at the time, but I hear online that lots of Japanese are regulars at Sushi-Say. Value is tricky to judge, but quality Japanese food comes at a premium and I felt it was money well spent in this case.
