It was excellent in every way, most especially the food.
The fish curry was magnificent, tasty, properly cooked and exactly spiced. Side dishes were also excellent amd starters were more than ample.
Service was sufficiently attentive, wothout being obsequious.
Not at all expensive I think, for central London, and for such a high standard of cuisine it was superb!
The decor is fun, undistracting, and a relief from alternatives. The tables are laid out spaciously for a saturday evening to provide a relaxing ambience.
Highly recommended!

We just returned from Malabar Junction and had an excellent experience there (apart from smokers): simple, elegant decor (orchids at each table), attentive service, very good food, reasonable prices.
I can't believe we were at the same restaurant as described in some of the reviews below! My only dissatisfaction was the small number of vegetarian options--but by combining three small dishes I got more than enough food.

This was supposed to be an old south Indian Restaurant, IT IS OLD & probably the owners also stopped bothering to look into the place.Decor is pretty old, plastic flowers, plastic forage. Food is really disappointing, so is the service. I have tried to speak to the management, they lack customer service skills. Overall a very bad experience. Do not visit this place if you want a good experience.

Terrible. Don't be fooled by the reviews on this site. Awful service. Average food. Very poor wine. And to top it all discretionary service - what for? Avoid at all costs...

Malabar junction/Express is a wonderful experience, specially unbelievably priced lunch menu (downstairs)only for £4.99 a meal which includes a minimum of 8 different items (which is a lot for that price in Central London). And the service is amazing and quick as it says 'Malabar Express'.-> A Highly Recomended Restaurant in Central London!
I was just going through one of the reviews below.. yeah its very true that someone looking for a very common/ usual Indian meal similar to Bricklane or Drummond Street, Please do not go to Malabar Junction B'cos it is a completly authentic South Indian Cuisine!

We went to Malabar Express which offers a set lunchtime menu, priced very competitively at £4.99. But apart from the price, the meal was disappointing - bland and tasteless and a bit mean-spirited with only half a paratha and mini-pappadoms. Not a patch on the generous and tasty thali meals I have eaten in India or in nearby Drummond Street. Maybe we should have gone to the main restaurant upstairs, but we don't feel encouraged to try it after this experience.

I have recently just moved from Dehli to london, and I got a little home sick so I decided to visit the Malabar Junction with a few of my college friends, and I felt at home! My mom doesn't know how to cook, my dad is een worse, and the wine and the service were the worst ever.

Stayed in London for a few days and was recommended the resturant by the hotel. Beautiful setting, excellent service and superb food! We enjoyed it so much, we returned the following evening!

It was supposed to be a special valentine night and to start it off we decided to have a meal. All i can say is thank god the show 'We will rock you' saved the night, as the meal was very dissapointing. Neither my partner nor I have ever experienced an indian meal like it, it was over priced and the menu was like no other. There was no nan bread but the bread they said was like it was more like stringy pastry. Plus the chicken korma looked like someone had an upset stomach and left it in the plate.
The service was slow and not very welcoming. I would not visit there again.
