I used to eat in Zen regularly. It is our local chinese restaurant. However, after yesterdays experience I will never be going there again because of the greediness with which they have behaved . For sunday lunch time they have an option of a la carte menu and a set menu where you pay £ 12.50 per person and can pick 4 starters and 4 main courses. There was 3 of us, but only two people were eating. At the end the bill came for 3 people. So we politely pointed out the mistake to our waiter (the manager) saying that only 2 of us were eating and the third person only had a drink . He made such a scene and was so rude insisting we pay for 3 people as 3 were sitting on the table. Wouldn't even listen to us suggesting that we can resolve this issue by paying per dish as in a la carte menu (which would be exactly £ 31.00 inclucing drinks) He would even listen. What they charged us for our vegetarian lunch was £ 50.00 I didn't mind paying but what I terribly minded was the rudeness and greediness with which they demanded the payment. (quite embarrasing). Huge disappointment.

Very disappointing evening last night. Firstly I must say in fairness that one of my companions suddenly felt unwell on arrival, so we didn't have ideal atmosphere on our table.

The aromatic duck was very dry and pretty tasteless. Our waitress struggled to get it off the bone. Prawn toasts were excellent.

My main of sizzling lamb with spring onion and ginger tasted overwhelmingly of ginger. There was some gristle in the lamb too. One of my friends had a pork and duck dish that I tasted but that too seemed overcooked and tastelss.

Service was fine. Our waiter was very concerned about my poorly friends untouched meal.

Someone ordered a Long Island Iced tea - something I would not have done in any Chinese- and had trouble drinking it. Tasted only of coke and had a few lumps of ice instead of crushed.

You will feel very well looked after here.

Some classic dishes but presented in a contemporary way and sometimes with a bit of a twist to them.

A little disappointing compared to previous visits. Menu not as interesting now, and the food (which admittedly was fairly good for what it was, but loses points when the price is factored in) seemed to arrive with indecent haste. Service was a touch grumpy, also. Rather dour atmosphere.

A real dissappointment. The service was really not acceptable, the waitress sat us down and forgot to bring our drinks until we asked her again. I never got my orange juice. The meal was largely tasteless and really bad value. This place is not worth the money. There are many great oriental places to eat, this is not one of them.

Although we haved lived in and around NW3 for over 10 years my wife and I had never eaten at Zen because it always seemed very expensive for a 'local' Chinese restaurant

We have been missing out - the food was excellent and the service was very helpful.

Although it was'nt cheap it offered good value for the quality of food and we had a good table at the window too

We will be going back.

When this first opened some time ago, everyone knew it was expensive but you got something really special in terms of food and service. Sadly the pricing has increased further but attention to detail has gone completely the other way. We won’t be returning in a hurry.
