I called in and was treated very badly. First I asked if she spoke chinese (Chinese restaurant... real possibilty?) The answer was: No - whats your problem?

I said none and asked them a question about their duck - How it is prepared? Fried is not to my liking and I expressed so but before I could say something else I was already hung up on.

Based on this they will never have my business. I am giving a 0 for service and a neutral 5 for the rest since I am not going to want to experience it.

I highly recommend the first set course. Fantastic value for money! My only other recommendation is to not eat 8 and a half battered apple wedges. They can sit quite heavy on the stomach.

Also used to go with the family when I was younger and always loved it, so went this evening when back in town but looks like things have slipped in a big way.

Food was still the same high standard but the service was poor. The kind you get in a tourist trap in town. Waiter was desparate to take the first drink order but gave a look of outright disgust at also bringing a jug of tap water. Then proceed to keep topping up the glasses to overslow levels after ever sip in that way some places do to finish the bottle - however once the starters arrived the waiters seems to go out of their way to ignore the customers (not just us). Along with other tables, we had to appoach the bar area to make requests. Our various main dishes arrived over the space of 10 minutes (which to be fair would good - it just would have been nice to have them together) without any explanation or appology and when paying, like other tables we had to ask numeous times for the bill.

Nothing about the service was polite tonight.

Instead of ice cream after the park when I was younger I was taken to Maxims for duck and pancakes due to the tantrums I’d throw if I was denied them. This restaurant is at the heart of my 20 years of life, every birthday, anniversary, announcement or lazy Saturday night has resulted in a meal at this restaurant. Plus, everyone who has visited us from any corner of the world, and there have been many, has been taken along to sample the delights of what Alan Yau described as ‘the quintessential suburban Chinese restaurant’ and number one on his top five Chinese restaurants in England – now that is praise. The manager Danny has been there since I was born and he has never failed, alongside side his delightful wife and impeccable staff, to serve us a phenomenal meal – strong words I know but I believe it is warranted in this situation. I have travelled extensively throughout the Far East as child and eaten in some of the best restaurants this and other countries have to offer but Maxims has charm, style (albeit slightly outdated), and food like nowhere else. The Szechuan prawns are to die for, the beef with ginger and spring onion tastes like it should and the crispy duck is the best I have ever tasted, and even though I am young I have tasted a lot. The menu honours its Cantonese routes and the frogs legs are a welcome change from the standard sweet and sour chicken glorified by so many other establishments. I could list the delights of pretty much every course on the menu but I suggest you try it for yourself. Maxims is one of the very few restaurants in Ealing that has stayed in business, under the same management, for the 20 years I have lived there. Once you visit, which I really hope you do, you’ll realise why.

I have been going to Maxim since I was a child and it's one of the best Chinese Restaurants I've dined at in London and I'm half Chinese so I should know. The service is excellent. The waiters are very friendly with their regulars and are very efficient. The crispy duck is outstanding and the rest of the menu is always cooked to a high standard! I love this restaurant and the mixed starters are superb! Two of the waiters are absolutely hilarious! I love it when they sing 'Happy Birthday'. It's hilarious! They put on quite a show!

We went to Maxim on Staurday evening, it was the first time we had a meal there and I decided to try it out due to reviews I read on this website. We had guests from abroad and wanted to treat them to something special, and Maxim more than did the trick. I must say it was great – good service, nice smart decor, excellent food, super white linen tablecloths and napkins. I enjoyed seeing the different people who ate there – a few families, about 4 birthday parties for 30-somethings and couples on a romantic night out. As soon as you walk in you are made to feel at ease, this is a retaurant where you can dress up if you like without feeling obliged by a snooty atmosphere or just go in jeans if you are feeling laid back. Even though they were busy our food was served swiftly and impressively – the duck for our crispy duck pancakes were shredded at the table by our waitress – was great to watch and added to an enjoyable evening out. The set menu's are good value for money with generous portions. The TsingTao beer has quite a kick even if it does taste non-alcoholic at the first sip! If you want a good evening out in Ealing I would not hesitate to recommend Maxim.
