We went here a few weeks ago with my brother in law and his wife . We were rather impressed with the decor and we had possibly the best table in the house with a lovely large window.

The resturant was rather quite and the waiters very very attentive.

However as they say never go by first impressions as it went downhill after that.

I found the menu rather limited , However we opted for the steak , Personally I would say it was the worst steak I have ever had! Im not the best of cooks but I could have done far better, it was tough, like leather and although I did say well done it was like char-coal, it came with chips and a small salad. It looked boaring and tasted boaring. I see others on this site have also said the same.

The other 3 meals served to our table were of the same standard.

I ordered a glass of wine and it came up half filled ( I know some other resturants do this why??)

Finally the bill came, my brother in law who is deaf did not really understand how the new credit card machines worked , one waiter was kindly helping him when a female waitress came up and said " hurry up we have other tables to serve!" I thought that was so rude , you could clearly see my brother in law needed help , I think her attitude was terrible and selfish. The waiter seemed very embarassed .

I should have had a word with the manager but I did not want to spoil my brother in laws special evening .

The bill came to over 130.00 and was not worth it.

I would never return to this resturant , the only thing that it has going for it is the decor , There are far better resturants in Islington that I would go back to . The food was worse than school dinners ( and thats pre Jamie Oliver!!)

This place is great. The location is fab, the decor lovely and the food and service are both as you would expect for the prices.

One thing would be to ban smoking, but that will happen soon enough!

I'll definitely be going back.

Rather clumsy and unfriendly service (like tossing cutlery across the table), and the fixed price menu dishes are small and uninspiring - not sure what the point of having a fixed price menu is if you fill it with sub-grade dishes. Disappointing. Very spacious and funky location above the antiques mall, though.

Regard this as in the top bracket of Islington restaurants - reliable, friendly, very good cooking, lovely airy room, Lola's has been around for some time and although, sadly, I only visit it when going to Sadlers Wells, I am always impressed by the quality of the food and the very amiable welcome.

Superb restaurant - thoroughly enjoyed my dinner there last night. Even though the restaurant was full and staff under pressure, they were patient and courteous with our inability to decide what we were going to eat from an enticing menu.

We had the 'grape varietal' wine flight which was delicious and a great way to learn about wines.

Well done Lola's!

Formerly my favourite restaurant in Islington (a position now enjoyed by Isarn), I left feeling somewhat disappointed by my last visit.

On the spur of the moment (walking down a cold Upper Street on a Sunday) my girlfriend and I decided to have lunch at Lola's. We have eaten dinner there on numerous occasions previously, and had always wanted to try out their Sunday lunch.

The main contributor to the general feeling of disappointment was the service. The highlights of our complaints being that nobody took our coats when we arrived (we ended up hanging them on our chairs); our waitress managed to splinter the cork in opening our wine and, rather than giving us a new bottle, then poured out half a glass into a glass behind the bar in order to remove the cork pieces; and, our waitress then failed to ask how we wanted our beef cooked. With respect to the final gripe, we assumed at the time that this was because the beef was cooked to set a level, although this turned out to be an incorrect assumption when every other lunchgoer was asked how they wanted their meet cooked (having been asked for their coats on arrival!). All small points, I know, but when combined with other issues made us feel as though we weren't valued as customers (a stark contrast to the previously experienced high levels of service).

Leaving aside the service, food was a fairly high standard and the atmosphere was pleasant enough for a Sunday afternoon, although the restaurant is starting to look a bit tired. The plastic flowers are bad enough, but the ancient extractor fans and discoloured blinds could really do with some attention.

I still like this restaurant a lot and will certainly return again, but with a hope that the service returns to the level of old (and perhaps that they choose to give the place a lick of paint!).

I went to Lola's recently for a magazine launch and was so impressed with the venue, the delicious canapes and the fantastic staff that I went back for my birthday dinner with my boyfriend. We both agreed that this place is wonderful. The food was fantastic, a succulent duck dish and a yummy steak with really great bread and nibbles before our meal arrived. The ambience was smooth, we both hate being rammed up close to others when we are eating and the tables here are well spaced out with very comfy seats which encourage you to stay for longer! We will definitely go back, can't recommend it highly enough!

Visited in late January and evening kicked off really well. Lovely starters, but main courses a real disappointment. Steak was like shoe leather. Service trailed off as got more busy, so all sat with empty wine glasses with bottle of white wine located in bucket 5 yards away. Would avoid if you have special occasion to celebrate.
