I recently went to the malabar for dinner with a very close friend. Our starter consisted of malabar prawns, 2 chicken dishes and a lamb. The prawns were cooked absolutely beautifully and the spices on the chicken were excellent. Our main came and it was even more delicious than the starter, my friend and I barely had room for pudding but we managed!! The decor gives off a relaxing atmosphere and the staff are wonderfully helpful. The manager was present and a lovely woman who catered to our very needs!!
I will definately be going back again!!!!

I have eaten at Malabar several times over the past few years and have always enjoyed it. The service is excellent, the food, while not perhaps the most experimental is tasty, fresh and good value for money. Malabar is a relaxed place without any pretentious overtones. I for one will continue to call it one of the best Indian restaurants in London.

A terrible dissapointment. There were fabulous smells wafting down the street but where they came from I don't know. It certainly wasn't from the food that found it's way to our table. Starters of prawn puri and vegetable samosas arrived unadorned on their large silver plates, dressed only in a puddle of oil, and served without any mitigating sauces which may have saved their blushes somewhat. My companion's dish of chicken livers was large enough to be a hearty main course but so unnapetising that she barely made it through a quarter of it. We hoped the main course would prove to be the source of the enticing aromas but I'm afraid it only got worse. The five dal dish claimed to contain five types of dal but we could barely count five pieces of dal in the thin tasteless soup. Cauliflower came swimming in a sea of oil - OK when the oil is spiky with fresh herbs and spices but this was a mouth coating dull blanket. Watery, oily and (unusually for Indian food) too salty - not a winning combination. The bananas - a restaurant speciality - was the only dish that suggested anyone in the kitchen cared. We won't be back. For great Indian food in the area try Mahal instead. Much underated and much less atmospheric but cooking in a different league.

I went there with Manoj, the last reviewer! I agree about the meat - we were eating from their set dinner, and had already eaten lots of grilled meat starters, which were nice. However, my quibbles about the curry were more than just the size - there wasn't the explosion of flavour you might expect from a good curry. Time for them to raise their game.

Hi I went there last week with a couple of friends. Thought the service was good, atmosphere also good, vegetarian excellent. only issue was that the curry contained very little meat and was too heavy on the sauce. be warned order one meat main per person.

This is probably the best place for an Indian meal. The food is light and refreshing, with excellent vegetarian options. The prices are more than reasonable, and the staff efficient and discrete. The decor is minimalistic and calming, and you shouldn't be surprised to see a celebrity tucked away in the corner having a relaxing meal!

Found this restaurant by searching for an Indian near Notting Hill. It was the only one, but I am pleased I found it. The food was nice and the service efficient and friendly. The evening was only spoilt by the two chimneys sitting next to us. Not a moment went by without one of them smoking. I am not sure if the restaurant has a no smoking section, if they do we were not offered it. Note to Manager if you don't already have a no smoking room, you should adopt one before we come back.
