Very disappointing experience.

A group of nine had dinner on a recent Saturday night. One of our group ordered the mixed starter for everyone. The starter was a small grilled lamb chop, very small piece of fish and something in batter. The mains were small and the rice plain.

The shock came with the bill. There was a 30 pound discretionary charge included (for groups of more than six ) which was not discretionary. And the price of the mixed starter was more than a main course. We paid 9 pound each for a mixed starter and most mains were 7.95. When we questioned the bill, in particular the price of the mixed starter which was not on the menu, we were met with hostility and 'that's what we charge'. We persisted but in the end got nowhere.

Maybe they thought we were tourists as only three of the groups were English and the other six Australians. However, of that six, two live in the UK and another two are previous residents. Everyone was very aware that 'they saw us coming'.

Would certainly not recommend this restaurant.

Generally before entering an Indian restaurant I would do my research and pop along, though this was done on a whim and what a dangerous one it was. This has got to be bar none the worst restaurant in terms of service and food.

Ordered for starters Paneer Pakora (looks/tastes nothing like it should), Shashlik Lamb (smells okay - taste dreadful), Samosas (two tiny samosas for £3.99???)

Alarm bells should have been ringing by now...I ordered Chilli paneer and rice as my starters...chillis were no where to be seen and the dish was a mix of tomatoes and paneer (which had been soaked in). The rice was well cooked my very bland and devoid of any flavouring/seasoning. My friends ordered Achari Gosht (like rubber and stale) - lemon rice...hmmm looked yellow tasted normal. The naans were defineltey supermarket stuff...tough and hard.

Finally the service was poor, had to ask 3 times for drinks and food to be ordered and on the mains had to ask twice!

The only good thing was the orange juice which tasted good (or it could be everthing else tasted so bad.) - I wont even begin with the bill.

If ever there was a place to avoid and even if you were desperate for a place to eat avoid this...I would suggest hopping on a training/tube and heading west to some more authentic Indian food.

Delicious typical Indian food in an old-world chic dining room (the palm tree columns are a great touch!). The best part is it's great value for money and there's plenty of space to accomodate groups of friends or families. This is one of my favorites, I'd also recommend the Sartaj Balti house.

It's had mixed reviews but we gave it the benefit of the doubt, I'm not sure we should have. After ordering drinks, the waiters came back to our table about three or four times at less than one minute intervals to see if we'd made our mind up and generally tried to chivvy us as if they couldn't wait to free up the table, even though we'd only just arrived. This bit them on the backside when they failed to bring the food all at the same time and we had to wait for rice of all things. The waiters didn't crack a smile between them and I never felt we were made to feel welcome. The food was fine and okay priced but on the basis of reviews I was expecting something better and I didn't get it. The final bit was paying the bill when a member of staff who we hadn't seen all night came to sort out the credit cards and commented that 'service was not included on the bill' as he'd worked out we hadn't tipped the usual 10 - 12.5%. The temptation to say 'So we gathered' was almost overwhelming.

The food was OK, the service was appalling. Very "Sirly" waiters, slow; the food didn't come out at the same time. The waiters were very pushy, my friend didn't want a dessert and he literally went through the dessert menu, telling her "try this, try that". How embarrassing for no other but himself. I think my tip reflected their service. Here's another tip, don't go here unless you're starving and feel masochist-ist and want a good telling off!!!!

Although it must be said one of the waiters was very good, but amidst the swarm of other losers, it was difficult to appreciate.

The food was OK, considering the raves I'd heard about it, it disappointed.

I booked this restaurant purely on the reviews it received and unfortunately I was very disappointed. The service was very slow and once the food did arrive, the lamb was mainly grissle, and the chicken was swimming (or I could say drowning) in oil. I certainly wont b returning.

I was looking for a restaurant to take my family to for a nice evening meal, i came across Khan's by chance. How lucky i was -

The restaurant had original decor and an inviting atmosphere, it smelt great too. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the food, and our kids also found suitable dishes that they loved. We have returned to Khan's time and time again, always to the same immaculate service and food.

I recommend this restaurant to anyone searching for a well-priced meal, for family or on a date.

On one my recent visit I have found it's not what it used to be, I had a Madras and side Aubergine Madras very tomatoey and auberginevery greasy. i have complained to the waiter and the reply was 'Sir this is how it should be". I 've been going to Khans since the opening in 1990 shame I 'm not going back again.
