Something must have changed since the last review. I went to the Green Olive on the Tuesday after the August bank holiday and the restaurant was nearly full. Welcomed with a prosecco and hor'dourves, our waiter, almost conspiratorily advised us that the kitchen managed to secure the very first deliveries of black truffle from the market that morning. So under his advice we had the black truffle tagliatelle. It was divine. Main course was steak cooked to perfection, however, it was only a distant memory now, because the wine, as recommended once again by our waiter, (who obviously doubles up as the sommeliere) was mind blowing. (the Arnione 2004, if you are interested). Dessert was a chocolate souffle topped with ice cream to share with coffee and limoncello to finish off...The service was excellent, attentive and the atmosphere warm and cosy. One of the better Italian restaurants in London...its not close to me, but I'll definately be going back.

As a local, I am sad to say that I agree with Kate’s review below. I went to the Green Olive last night, with my wife, hoping to have a quick and simple dinner. On arrival, we were left loitering at the entrance for several minutes by members of staff clearly dealing with an already frustrated crowd.

You could immediately sense the tension in the room and we soon find out the reason behind it. How it takes one hour to produce a crab salad, I cannot fathom? The crab was delicious but how could you mess up a crab salad…ah yes, put lots slices of grapefruit around it.

At this point our waiter made an appearance with the desert menu and asked us if we would like some coffee. My wife and I glanced at each other but decided that we were too hungry to make a run for it. We declined his offer.

Soon we started to place bets on how long it would take for our main course to arrive. She placed her money on a further 25 minutes; I went for 50 minutes. She lost but was offered a complimentary glass of wine as a runner’s up prize by the manager. When they did arrive, our respective main courses of lamb and red snapper were both unfeasibly bland. You would imagine that if the chef has a policy of not seasoning food he might offer dinners the opportunity to do it themselves but alas no salt or pepper was provided at the table.

The evening was farcical. As time went by different tables became aware that they were not the only ones sitting, hungry but too polite to throw a scene. Inevitably tables were soon united and conversations traversed their usual boundaries with a whiff of WWII spirit, as guests shared their despair and resolve. I was tempted, as if in an AA meeting, to stand and announce to all that, “Hi, my name is Orlando and I’m hungry”. I’m sure that I would have received a round of applause.

Incredible!

I went to the Green Olive last night with my girlfriend, we had the most incredibel dinner and an even more fabulousbottle of wine!

The staff were very attentive - but not too attentive! Service prompt and exceptional and the food to die for, we shared the fish soup which was fresh, vibrant and packed with the most delectable selection of fish and crayfish. For main i had the gnochhi which was light and delicte with a gutsy ragu, and the grilled mullet was perfectly cooked and accompanied by some delicious paotatoes and olives - yum!

A faultless dining expereince, thankyou we will return!

I've been there 5 or 6 time since they reopened... Every time was an incredible experience!

The fish soup is great but the real gemstone is the organic lamb... is like butter in the mouth.

There's only one thing better than the food in Green Olive... their wine list.

Is astounding...This is a fine all-Italian list that amply demonstrates the incredible range of wine on offer from the country. In particular, a real effort has been made to look beyond the classic regions of Piedmont , Tuscany and Friuli...

I think that Green Olive is one of the best italian restaurant in London...for sure the best value for money!!

We had the most delicious sunday lunch at Green Olive. The food is exceptional and the service very charming. My wife and I shared a whole roasted seabass which was cooked perfectly. Everyone loved the food and our guests were so imperesed that they have invited us back for an evening meal at the Green Olive. We very much look forward to going back.

I took my friends to Green Olive last night to celebrate a birthday. The service was excellent, but the food was patchy. My calamare was served whole, and the spoon I was given to eat the starter wasn't the right implement for the task! It was a little rubbery, although tasty. My friends all had a starter which included a large slice of sausage which again was impossible to tackle with a spoon. The lamb was beautiful - pink and tender; but my veal Milanese was covered in a thick layer of very floury soggy batter! Most unappetising, although the meat was fine. The range of puds was limited and the ice creams were lovely, but the famous Tiramisu arrived deep frozen, which isn't what we expected. The coffee the petits fours were delicious. So, pleasant atmosphere, and good service (even though one waiter seemed to have never waited at table before), but overpriced for the quality.

I went to the Green Olive with a bunch of friends for dinner on Saturday night. We selected a bottle of wine and were told that it had run out. Fair enough, it happens. Our second choice was fine but when we ordered a second bottle we were told that had run out too. Things did not improve with the meal. We were given the menu and told there were no main courses! They had run out at just after 9 PM on a Saturday night. Unbelievable. The food we did have was adequate but over priced and the service was intermittent. All in all a very disappointing evening.
