Glad we didn't read some of those reviews before going on Good Friday.

Whether it was because they were a bit quieter than usual I don't know, but the service was spot on - utterly professional, attentive without being overly so (eg they refilled our glasses once because we'd run dry, not every 5 minutes because they wanted to flog another bottle), and happy to check with the chefs on ingredients for my wife's allergies.

The food was wonderful - perfectly cooked top-quality lamb. Brilliantly priced wine list. Excellent evening out.

Friday evening, dinner for 4 of us.The room is very noisy as the decor reverberates any noise. The food was well presented and the menu had something for everyone. The service was slow...even with 3 "chefs" that we could see ,it seemed to take a long time coming and the restaurant was less than half full. The wait staff was not attentive to the tables nor to the finished dishes supplied by the "chefs"-they spent a lot of time in a huddle chatting amongst themselves. They need someone to take charge of the room. Not sure why they insisted on dimming the lights throughout the evening....this is not exactly a "romantic" place, and it is annoying not to be able to see well what is in your plate. The wine list is very good ,with a big choice and probably the lowest mark-ups in a London restaurant I have seen.So you can really splurge-For £30 here you can get a very good wine that retails for £20-25.....whereas in most other restaurants in London ,your £30 will get you something that retails for below £10.So the Union cafe is an opportunity to test the high end of the winelist knowing you are getting some very good wines.

I ate at The Union Cafe on Saturday 10th February with my Father and am so surprised to read past reviews! I had not been here before although my dad had, with other friends. We didnt make the booking until early Saturday evening (I had come down from Scotland and my dad was in the country form USA) and were accomodated at a great table, surveying the whole room. The service and food we received was superb. The manageress was attentive as were the other staff. The ambience of the place was good and the restaurant was full. Luckily I wasnt footing the bill but I believe it was a reasonable price. I would be happy to go again and would recommend to others.

We dined here often in 2001 & 2002 when doing a show in London. Loved the menu, the service and the staff. A great neighborhood restaurant. Sad to hear it's gone to their head. This was a find.

the staff were rude and abusive because we did not want to pay the service charge which we felt was not due to them because the service was OK. In fact we were not offered our complete set menu and had to beg for our teas and coffees and our cheese and biscuits selection. They became abusive and were quite intimidating calling us names and really you have a serious problem with your staff and their attitude towards the customers. However the food was delicious.

Give it a miss, plenty of better places to have a satisfactory meal in Marylebone. We went for brunch. No idea why an order of Caesar salad and eggs benedict took 1 hour to arrive when the place was empty. Waitress quickly lost interest when we ordered water rather than a bottle of wine (it was 1.30pm). Menu is pretty standard, but they still managed to mess it up. They probably don't even care...spend your hard earned GBPs elsewhere...

Good menu selection, appeals to most tastes but certainly not bland. Good selection of wines and not at rip-off prices. Particularly tasty New Zealand Sauvignon.

Well worth a visit

Thia is our local pit-stop restaurant. Why? Consistent quality, excellent and very well-priced wine list, a nice buzz when it's busy, good air-con to keep non-smokers comfortable, and friendly staff once you get to know them. Try the Union burger if you're feeling carnivorous.
