Soho Spice

arrived at 8pm, place was pretty busy, i made the mistake then of reading the reviews of soho spice on my iphone while waiting for the starters! Most of the reviews seemed negative. Ok i agree the service was not great, the waiters and service was abrupt and unwelcoming. The food was actually pretty standard. I am from the food industry, the stuff produced here is high volume food, i dont think you need very good customer service to sustain a business in this locality, simply because of the passing trade. The food was not awful but certainly nothing to write about. Very mediocre.

Despite some of the bad reviews went there with some friends last Friday.

Not your typical indian restaurant food with the sauces quite runny but full of taste and well presented. The staff were friendly and attentive but we felt a little rushed....also the tea/coffee machine was broken... Prices very reasonable and the lounge/bar downstairs was quite cool.

Its one of those places which you just have to try yourself...even if it's just the once.

We came here in the New Year to eat. The place was quite busy and our tables were ready for us, as we had booked.

I was quite disappointed overall- the portions of food especially the starters were quite small.

The food was nothing great and overall not great.

Will not be coming here again.

A group of us (10 total) had dinner before Christmas, and it was a disaster. After being seated on time at the wrong table, then being asked to wait in the loud downstairs bar (without so much as an apology), we were served the food -- and the vegetarians were given the chicken! The food was unremarkable, but the service -- and general customer care -- was exceptionally bad.

Soho Spice used to be a very good place to eat in convenient upper Wardour St, but quality has, sadly, almost disappeared from the menu. Starter of potatoe dish was reasonable but main course of prawn curry + extras was tasteless, the sauce mostly water and accompanying vegetables hopelessly overcooked and underspiced. Service was friendly and apparently efficient, but no effort was made to ask if myself and companion wanted popadums and pickles and the nan arrived late. All of this was at a quiet early-evening time with only a few other diners in the room. Really poor these days and worth going a long way to avoid.

I went to this restaurant with my friends on 15th January and i had the best indian lunch. The restaurant was quite cosy n comfortable. The manager welcomed us with a smile and made some great suggestions bout the food. The staff was quite attentive. I had spicy prawns which was out of this world with mango lassi. on managers suggestion i ordered for a sea food platter which was great. it had rice, lentil, naan bread. it was quite filling n tasty. its complete value for money. not very expensive n good food. overall the service n food was very satisfying. strongly recommended by me.

I really cannot believe that the food in this place has had any good reviews; it is the most unauthentic and revolting Indian food I have had the misfortune of paying 12 quid for. I had the Chicken Korma - the sauce was very runny and tasted like a chicken Oxo stock cube with some clumsily added spices, with the meat itself being absurdly tough. My only guess is that they've "Britished" the food up to appeal to the plebs. I recommend anyone who knows anything about Indian food to try this place just once, so that they can see exactly how badly it can be done, and at ridiculous prices.

I'm quite surprised at the low scores Soho Spice has received - I think they are ill-deserved. I have come here on a number of occasions to find the staff friendly and attentive, the wine selection above-par (for an Indian restaurant especially this is a rare blessing) and the food to be bordering on superb. On the last visit we enjoyed a delightful array of daal, pilau rice, good-quality curries, a superb Raan lamb shank and exquisite naans dripping in ghee (a treat which is unusual to find nowadays).

Perhaps I've just had consistently lucky visits, but based on my experience I would heartily recommend this as excellent-value and well worth a visit if you find yourself in Soho in search of an Indian which stretches itself beyond the usual curry house favourites.

Me and my girlfriend went to soho spicy about a week ago and i had a brilliant eveneing there. the food was excellent and service was quick.

i recommend everyone to go there and try it out.

i totally dis agree with the previous review, when i read this review i was bit afraid to try this restaurant... finaly i made up my mind and tried out this restaurant one evening.... believe me!!! overall experience was amazing and unforgetfull for me.... after having dinner with my frnd, ther is a club downstairs which added more to our evening.....

i really had a very great time that evening
