Le Cafe du Jardin

Just come back from a meal with 12 friends in one of their private rooms. It was a 'set menu' due to the number of people, however, the menu supplied did not have any prices listed, which was annoying.

The food was ok, but not brilliant and the service was extremely slow. We sat down around 8:30pm and it took about 45 mins for our order to be taken, then about an hour afterwards the starter arrived. The main course arrived much later as well as dessert. I know its not the waiters fault, more that of the kitchen, but we were all so annoyed we told him we would not be paying the 'optional' gratiutiy, so they removed it from the final bill. We ordered a number of bottles of wine as well as bottled water, but in the end, the final cost was 62 pounds for each person, definatley not worth that much, I've paid far less at Rules in Covent Garden and had much better food and far better servide. I won't be going back.

I find some of these reviews hard to read and hope it was just a blip for this restaurant. I ate there back in November and can honestly say that the food was superb, albeit the service was a little slow. Well worth a visit in my opinion and i shall return in the near future.

Just dire. I had not read the reviews on here before, and walked in on the way to the theatre. My starter arrived within 3 minutes of our order being taken, and the seocnd i finished, the main courses arrived. They could not possibly have cooked them in that time - must have been microwaved. The food was terrible, my husband's sea bass was both cold and burnt, my ostrich miniscule and salty. We would NOT go again (although the bread was nice!)

From the moment we arrived to the moment we left the entire experience wa abysmal. We booked for a group Christmas dinner and arrived on time for our meal, only to find the table still hadnt been set, the heating was on full max and the pre-ordered wine was nowhere to be seen. The wine finally arrived after 20 mins, in pre opened bottles tasting nothing like the label suggested it should. Vile. The food was even worse. Grilled Goats cheese that had probably been cooked by sitting out in the central heating, and main courses so dry you could scrape ice off your car with them. The accompaniments were sprouts and beans, which work well if you opted for the turkey but not so well with Pasta! The desserts were bland, the pastry inpenetrable and to top it off the waiters may as well have been on strike. They brought starters, whisked them away to other tables with no explanation, were rude and barely spoke english.

It is safe to say I will NEVER step foot in there again.

I really cannot stress enough how dreadful this restaurant is. The food was poor at best, the service was utterly dreadful, a couple of not cheap bottles of wine were undrinkable, the toilets were covered in paper and flooded, and the aircon was set to somewhere near the temperature of the sun. This place only exists due to its location - please do yourself a favour and avoid.

We went to cafe du jardin for our work Christmas lunch and it was thouroughly disappointing. The vegetarian options were below average, the waiters snooty and rude and the service appalling.

When ordering another bottle of wine, we were told that we could not have any more as they needed the table back at 16:30...

We went there yesterday for lunch. Expecting to find a nice atmosphere and good food when we booked, let's say it was very disapointing. Have to agree with the other comment below, the quality of food was poor and so the service.

Like one of the other reviewers, we had the special offer menu which included a glass of champagne. £23, for this area, should represent pretty good value but the food was really substandard. Our starters were fair (although took over an hour to arrive) but the main course was really disappointing: duck confit that was tough enough to be inedible. Our French waitress explained that they didn't cook duck confit in the French way! Er ... maybe they should call it something else?

We went to this restaurants based on the comments left by other customers on the website and we have to confess, it was a total disaster...

When we got there, it took them at least 20 min. to sit us and, although we had booked a table, it seemed that they had set it at "last minute" by one of their back doors, leaving us listening to the pleasant noise o the street... It then took them another half an hour and 4 requests to actually close this back door...

Very slow service, we actually had to ask them to bring us the drinks menu and it took them at least 50 minutes to bring the mains course after we had our starters...

Terribly overpriced... Food was horrendous, my boyfriend asked for a medium done steak and it ended up coming totally burnt in one of the sides, so OVER well done... Not even the chips they could get right...

Do not recommend it to anyone, not even if someone else is paying fo it.

The staff food and surroundings helped to make me and my wife's first anniversary celebration a very special night.The service was first class, especially as the restaurant was full. The food was very well cooked I will definately travel the 80 miles from my house to eat here again.
