Ate at the Court restuarant 17 April 2009. The setting is beautiful and unique. Walking into such a magnificent space 'after hours' adds a priceless dimension. The service was friendly and unobtrusive. The food was well thought out, well presented and delicious. The wine was much better quality that you would get elsewhere for the same price. I can't think of a nicer place to eat. Wish it was open more evenings.

Our first visit, and certainly won't be our last. Setting, stunning; food superb, service immaculate. Not cheap, but not second mortgage either, and we were not at all rushed. very well worth the experience.

Check to see if a jazz band is playing before you book. It absolutely ruins the atmosphere and annoys the waiting staff to distraction.

Just had a look at the reviews, could i remark that the company that manages the restaurant has changed on 01.05.06.
Good to see that it made a difference.
Can't rate the restaurant, would not be fair and defeat the purpose of this forum.

Stunning setting - great food, but...
Lunch a few days before Christmas can be quite a test of a restaurant’s resources. Our table of six was close to a table of twelve, whose party-poppers eched around the glass dome of the British Museum’s Great Court like pistol shots. Heaven knows what regular museum goers at ground level must have thought!
Service, though pleasant, was extremely slow, which we were prepared to put down to the Christmas rush, although one member of our party who had dined here before felt that service had been slow on that occasion also.
The menu is reassuringly limited to four choices per course plus a couple of Pasta options. For December, there was an additional menu of Austrian dishes, for example, char and trout crepes or duck confit and breast with red cabbage. When it came, the food was excellent. Between the six of us we ordered a wide range of what was on offer and here was not a dud among them.
An intelligent wine list included some unusual treats with a markup equiivalent to most decent West End restaurants.
The setting is stunning, with amazing views down into the great Reading Room, and the curved glass roof above creating the illusion of an al fresco meal - in a London December!
