What a change to have indian food that actually tastes rather than is just there to blow your mouth away. The vegetarian choices are always fun and the chicken birianya excellent. Pleasant staff and lots of indian customers, so to me this is one of the best places for lunch after a spot of shopping

This restaurant is not too bad.
But I'd really rather eat in East Ham than here. There are lots of South Indian restaurants there. We spent only £8 - 9 for the two of us, and got the best food, and were so full !

We went to Rasa despite the mixed reviews and it was most definitely worth it. Make no mistake, this is not your typical high street Indian restaurant and the dishes are southern Indian. The service was friendly and attentive and the food really exceptional (plenty of vegetarian options too). We'll definitely be back.

The staff were friendly and attentive but the food was really poor. We shared the mixed pickles to start - nothing special- except the raw garlic one!....ugh. I had the chicken starter and it tasted of nothing at all and came with a baby food tomato sauce which also tasted of - nothing. Then a vegetable curry which was the worst i've eaten in many years. The Paratha and rice were ok, the menu a triumph of pretension, and considering the appalling quality of the food, an insult to the intelligence. Sort it out mate!

I stumbled upon Rasa W1 yesterday night. I ordered one of the Fish curries which was served with Cassava. The dish was really extraordinary. I almost licked the bowl clean. I do have to admit though, the portion size was really small for the price we are paying. I would definitely go there again though!

I went to Rasa on Saturday for a good friend's birthday. Having heard bits from friends and being part South Indian (!) I was expecting a nice meal and am pleased to say it didn't disappoint. We were treated to poppadams and an array of pickles to start. We opted for no starters and chose a mixture of items to share including chicken masala and pooris which were all delicious. My birthday friend opted for a dosa which she was impressed with. We managed to grab the attention of a waiter when my friend was not looking, to arrange a quick birthday surprise. Apart from our ordered desserts they specially brought a pancake with three scoops of ice cream and candles for her. Although we forgot our camera, the waiters very thoughtfully offered to email us a picture using the restaurant camera.
It was a really nice gesture and fitting end to a scrumptious meal.

I’ve been taken here twice recently and have enjoyed both meals enormously. The menu is unusual but the fish curries in particular are simply brilliant. The service is pleasantly unobtrusive but the waiters were able to make sensible suggestions about matching rice to dishes. The décor could be seen as a touch overwhelming but I just found it cheerful. All in all a great experience and one I’ll surely repeat.

I ate here with 2 American friends in October. they were very doubtful as they don't have much experience of Indian food. We thought the food was fantastic and they were just so surprised by how good it all was. The portions are just right though we always eat too much as we love so many dishes on the menu. The dosas are lovely and my favourite is the beetroot curry. It is good to see so many interesting vegetarian dishes. I have never had a meal in Rasa that has been less than excellent and my American friends are now converts to Kerelan cooking.

It was probably the best ever Indian meal I have ever had! i was really doubtful when i saw their strange menu, which had none of my favourite indian dishes. But the waiter was friendly and expalined me well about their dishes and the cuisine in general. The food was fantastic. I really enjoyed the evening and pricewise its not of course cheap, but decent ! Nothing good comes cheap !!

I can't believe people are giving this restaurant bad reviews. The food here is fantastic and very authentically South Indian. I have never had anything "cold" or "greasy", and the portions are definitely NOT "tiny" - I've always come away really full. True, the prices are pretty high but this is central London. The original Rasa restaurant is in Stoke Newington Church Street, N16, and is a lot cheaper, and nicer, I think. I'm going to post a separate review of this branch now. But Rasa W1 is a good restaurant.
