your comments review this restaurant and win a bottle of champagne

My wife and I went to the Foliage on Sat 7th Feb.

Beforehand we had a great champagne cocktail in the bar, accompanied with some complimentary tasty bar snacks. The bar was very pleasant and they had some live jazz music in there while we were eating.

We went with the tasting menu which was £75 per person and also went with the wine tasting too at £56 per person. The wines do work out expensive at but as this was a special treat we thought we would go the whole hog :-) I am so glad we went with the wines. We had 5 different wines, one to compliment each course. And each wine did superbly well ! Each wine had very different characteristics, some were sweet, some dryer and we finished in the end with a very fine port based dessert wine. The wine experience made this meal go from a 10 to 11 out of 10 !

The food and service was out of this world. The attentional to detail was great and nothing was too much trouble. It was a very pleasant evening and we ended leaving after 2.5 hours. At no point were we rushed and actually the time flew bye. I couldnt find a fault even if I had tried.

I would recommed this to anyone that wants to be treated to food heaven. Great for a special occasion such as an anniversary !

A Girl Has To Eat

A Girl Has To Eat - 7/10

Tuesday, April 28, 2009 - The service was pleasant all round and was as expected of a 5 star hotel. At any other restaurant, £29 for the four courses that we had would have been exceptional value. And while the food was good overall, it was somehow lacking. This meal did not bear a similar resemblance to the quality of cooking that I had experienced previously. The execution lacked precision and the delivery was just not quite good enough for a one star Michelin restaurant.

Tuesday, October 28, 2008 - Foliage is hidden deep within the 150-year-old former Hyde Park Hotel - previously patronised by Edward VIII, Churchill, Valentino and Gandhi (for whom a goat was daily milked) - in part of what was once the Park Restaurant. To find it, one must climb the gilded staircase, traverse the marble lobby, negotiate the loud, trendy Mandarin Bar, navigate past opposing, open-glass, 5,000 bottle wine cupboards into the bright rotunda antechamber before finally reaching the calm, serene, cream and green dining room.

Not Quite Nigella

Monday, August 25, 2008 - Sometimes the only thing that will do when one is stressed is some coddling, charm and civility. So where does one turn but a 5 star hotel for lunch. The best part of dining in London is getting to try Michelin starred restaurants. Michelin doesn’t bother with Australia so whilst Tetsuya’s would be worthy of a Michelin star, he remains untouched with the fairy wand. So now is my chance to consume as many Michelin stars as possible. Housed in the Mandarin Oriental Hotel at Hyde Park London, never a shabby place to stay, Foliage has 1 Michelin star...
