I am half Japanese and half English; as a result I have a reasonable grasp of both culinary traditions. I took a Japanese aunt and cousin. We all enjoyed the food thoroughly & especially the freshness of the fish. The service was good being 100% Japanese but not excellent. The portions were large but not too massive. All in all very delicious.

I have been to Miyama fairly regularly (probably on 15-20 occasions in the last couple of years) and have rarely been disappointed with the food (except on one occasion where I ordered the japanese shumai (£6 for 3), which turned out to be the frozen variety available in japanese supermarkets!). The sushi in particular is very good quality and the sets are of good value, the most expensive at 14 pieces for £25. The dobin mushi (soup in a tea pot), deep-fried soft shell crab, nasu dengaku (grilled aubergine with miso), agedashi tofu, grilled sushi variety, nabeyaki udon, etc are all good and reliable. This place comes to mind whenever I look for reliable and fuss-free traditional Japanese fare (none of that Nobu and Zuma hullabaloo), definitely not to be confused with Miyama City branch!

On a friday night, Miyama was suitable with its classy atmosphere, sourounded by important people...i truely liked it. The food was authentic and real...a great place for japenses food.
The only downside to it all was, you wont fill yourself up with just one dish..

Wow! This place is fantastic!! The food is extremely fresh and authentic--EXCELLENT!!! You are likely to be one of the few non-Japanese clients as well. A real "value for money" rstaurant. If you love Japanese, this is the place.

Authentic japanese cuisine as it should be...
In a time where asian food often means to be served arrongantly with fuss and you feel guilty not tio speak three dialects, Miyama gives you freshness and quality and proves that taste and simpllcity is far better than trend and useless complexity...
On weekdays, the toro is as good as in Japan (if not better !)
Enjoy with afficionatos !

I'm originally from Japan and have been living in London for 6 years, and this used to be my favourite Japanese restaurant as it was very authentic, freshest quality. But I think they have changed owner or chef recently as the menu has slightly changed. I loved their 4 course lunch 25 pounds - you get appetiser, a choice of starter(inc soft shell crab, tempura etc) and main (sushi, sashimi etc), dessert and miso soup. the portions were great and it was better than some of the restaurants in Japan in terms of quality and value.
but I went a couple of months ago for Saturday lunch and opted for the 4 course lunch again. now the choice for starter hasn't changed however the portions was very small, there was a tiny of portion of soft shell crab tempura less than half the portion of what it used to be. For the main, I had assorted sushi, and I was so dissapointed, they used to have the freshest, authentic sushi. it mainly consisted of salmon, be it nigiri or maki. Whilist I don't mind a bit of salmon anyone that has been to Japan knows that salmon is not such a celebrated fish of choice for sushi. And the rest was basically californian rolls. Also you now have to pay additional cost if you want fish such as black cod for your main making your lunch 30+. Like before, the service hasn't change at all, all the waitresses are very friendly, attentive and always coming back to the tables to pour a fesh cup of complimentary green tea.
It seems to me that they have started to cater mainly for non-Japanese clientele which is such a shame but understandable as there are a lot less Japanese living in London than when I first moved here.

Have been going here for at least the last four years. Food has always been very good and not the flashy pseudo fusion Japanese food you get at some other establishments (like Itsu). They have an uncanny ability (as all top Japanese places in London) to source the freshest seafood and even have certain slightly more uncommon items like sea urchin. This place is a tribute to what Japanese food should be, simple, elegant but yet able to incorporate complex subtle flavours.
