Extremely dissappointed with both the food and service. The portions are much smaller and overpriced. Personally I think it is a rip-off. Ramen was no different to instant noodles costing £8 and the soft shell crab was incredibly small (just one tiny piece) for £10.50?! I wouldn't mind spending a lot if the food was nice but honestly, was not worth it at all and never going back. I don't recommend this restaurant to anyone. Better off eating mcdonalds to be honest.

Hubby and I came here last night. We were customers of the previous location and as before, the food did not disappoint us. Authentic Japanese food at its best. The price is not that bad, too in comparison to other Japanese/Oriental Fusion restaurants. The service was good and the manager/s were very welcoming.

I just hope the new management won’t allow the restraurant to lose its authenticity. I miss the feeling of being in Japan once I enter the restaurant. Yesterday, it felt that it was just another restaurant.

Please bring back the traditional decorations! And also, please review your dessert section…not a lot of options there!

The apple has fallen far from it's parent tree. An uninspiring beginning after it's recent change in location. Although superficially it appears to have potential, there is a certain lack of character in both it's interior decoration and food once you find yourself seated.

Indeed the restaurant seems well aware that it's too late to leave as the service and effort placed in preparing and serving the food is definitely below par. It is sad to discover the quality of food to have fallen so much, leaving you with the foul taste that you are paying for it's relocation or possibly the excessive salt in the main dishes. Call me cynical, but the cheap salt may have been deliberate to encourage the purchase of accompanying drinks.

To end on a positive, at least the bill states "service not included" since a tip is not deserving.

Simply...Food is OK. The service is so poor and you are rushed by waiters to leave the table as soon as possible.

I went for the first time to Conduit St. Food was excellent. The female waitresses gave us an excellent service. When they brought us the check, I was drinking the last half of a glass of orange juice. I was drinking it slowly. When you go to a restaurant for diner on Saturday night, you generally take your time to enjoy the food. Well, it seems this is not allowed here. A guy approached us and told us we had to leave because they needed our table. I obviously refused and responded I was paying for my food and service, so they sent a second guy with the same request. I stayed at the table anyway and when we spoke with the guy in charge, he dismissed us in a very rude manner. It is a pity that a restaurant with such a good food has a manager or owner that doesn´t care about its clients. I can understand they need the tables, but I was just taking a few minutes. A restaurant is not about eating, it is the whole experience of enjoying the atmosphere and taking your time to be there. They just don´t get it

Hi, I went to the new venue last night and thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience, the fatty tuna was delicious and the steak teriyaki was fabulous. The staff were very pleasant and helpful and the portions were of a good size, so I dont know what some other reviewers expect, its not the USA here !

I have been a regular customer for many years and I love the place. 10 out of 10

Like the previous reviewer, I (and my family) have been a regular customer to Sakura when it was at Hanover Street. Since its move, we have been there twice and I must admit that it just doesn't seem worth going any more.

The atmosphere is too westernised, it doesn't have the Japanese feel any more. The service...was average, it has been like that for years, we just accepted that it is a Japanese way. The food portion has shrunk to the most tiny piece of fish on the rice and the price has gone up at the same time.

I have been a monthly Sakura customer for more than eight years and put up as many people have with the service for the value for money food. A visit to the new premises tonight however has sadly stripped me of the last reason to go back. The nigiri were unexpertly cut with the smallest sliver of sea bass sitting on different sized rice tasting like the back of my hand. The usually tasty unagi were full of bones, cold and lacked the sauce. The whole sushi platter was carelessly put together, similarly the agedofu and soft shell crab which were made with no consideration to proportions of condiments ie too much. There was clearly no chef training nor pride taken in preparing the food which for a Japanese restaurant just doesn't happen. It may as well close down now as judging by the lack of queue and empty tables, the customers have finally voted with their feet.

Gourmet Chick

Gourmet Chick - 7/10

Monday, April 19, 2010 - The sashimi selection was served without fanfare on a simple plate rather than a platter or presentation board. The sashimi was a perfect room temperature and tasted very fresh. The tuna in particular was as soft as butter. I also tried the nabeyaki udon which was a real feast. The large bowl of salty broth was packed with udon noodles, chunks of seafood and chicken, tempura vegetables and a poached egg. The tempura was a little on the soggy side as it had perhaps been sitting in the broth for too long but otherwise it was a pretty decent nabeyaki.
