Booked here for my wife's birthday after doing a bit of on line research and a recommendadtion from a local. Although the room itself is very nice and yes - the view to the bar area is great we had a very disappointing evening. The staff were brusque, almost rude and not welcoming and my wife's main course was poorly cooked. It was not cheap and the overall package does not add up. This reataurant would not survive in my town (Melbourne, Aust)
We have followed up with the restaurant and they did express concern and surprise and offerred a return visit to prove their competance but we had travelled on by that time. We could not recommend this place based on our experience

Highly recommended. Took my husband there for a pre-theatre dinner on his birthday. The food was great, service friendly and considerate. We were not rushed to finish our meal and the waiter surprised us with chocolate and biscuits, knowing that our meal was a special occasion. Be sure to book a table, overlooking the bar area. It's refreshing to get a good-value meal with personal service in this part of London. We will go again and recommend to friends.

We booked a table here on a Friday night and had the pre-theatre menu, which was very good value (16.75 for two courses). The food was lovely, I had the Roast Chicken with crushed potatoes and Madeira sauce, my partner had the Trout which he was very impressed with – and we both had the Plum Tarte Tatin with Vanilla pod ice cream – yum yum yum!! The service was very good; they managed to get us in and out in time for our theatre showing. The restaurant is situated on a mezzanine level, so we had a balcony table over-looking a busy and lively bar area. All in all, it was a good dining experience, however it was a tad pretentious, we didn’t feel particularly relaxed and watch out for the drinks, over £4 for a bottle of beer, but then you are paying for the location as much as the food.

Stayed at One Aldwych this weekend and had the Taste of Britain menu at Indigo. This was one of the best meals I have eaten in a long time, potted goose followed by a surpisingly tender mutton fillet in caper and parsley sauce and the whole meal finished with a triumphant victorian trifle! Mt wife's seabass was however slightly less successful although the roasted shallot soup and apple crumble more than made up for any shortcomings.

With a companion I took advantage of Indigo's special offer English food offer (2 courses for £22.50) last Monday. The restaurant is on a mezzanine floor above a very relaxed bar area and, as we were the first customers we got the best view. Service was attentive and friendly, with the waiter returning to our table several times to offer us more of the selection of breads while we waited for our first (main) course. English wines were on offer to match the English food - we had a very pleasant Chapel Down pinot noir (£29).
The mains to be well cooked. I had Ryedale Lamb (cooked medium as I had asked) with crushed potatoes and vegetables (the wilted rocket went particularly well with the lamb, though the carrot were surprisingly al dente); my companion had Herefordshire beef steak with bearnaise sauce (enough to complement rather than to smother the beef) and a large succulent mushroom, plus veg.
For dessert, I was concentrating too much on my plate to remember what my companion ate. I ordered the 'Quaking Pudding', which turned out to be a very quivery large rounded ramekin's worth of egg custard with nutmeg and a touch of cinnamon, served with gooseberries. A good light dessert dish. The meal was polished off for me with a glass of Tokay. The bill for two came to £91 (incl. service charge).
Conclusion: Indigo was value for money - we came away satisfied and saying that we would return. Yes, it is pricier than average, but then you are paying for the smart (but relaxed) location and ambience, attentive service and good cooking with quality ingredients. Hint: get a balcony table, so that you have a good view over the bar area below.

Great service & carefully thought through dishes. I like the mix your own salad option too.
However I dont think it justifies the prices of food & wine (almost £6 for pumpkin & ginger soup and £3 for a simple coffee). Also find the dishes were slightly salty and was drinking lots of water after the meal.

I have to say, without a shadow of a doubt, the best place I have eaten in London. Not pretenious, like some places I would rather not mention, not yet hyped to the point of boredom, filled with sensible types, rather than, as the Victorians would say the 'nouve riches' - i.e. loud mouthed chavs, that seem to be filling other London restaurants, along with mouthy football players!
The food is excellent, the chocolate assiette, ordered to share between two, resulted in another being ordered, just fabulous.
The service was so relaxed, non-pretentious, that our wine glasses were always filled and food escorted to and from the table without either of us really noticing. Never rushed before, during or after service - without doubt, unbelievable service.
The price may look expensive, but just because the chef hasn't been on TV flogging his guts out, in the ever more vicious circle to seeking of riches and publicity, doesn't mean you should pay more for less at other restaurants!
My favorite by far, of all restaurants in London...it will take some beating and convincing otherwise!
